Coach Says Conor McGregor Could Make Quick Return After UFC 246 If Needed

January 13, 2020 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Conor McGregor’s coach says that if the fighter gets a good offer soon after his UFC 246 fight this weekend, he would jump in even with a short downtime. Jon Kavanagh spoke with McGregor’s YouTube channel and was asked about McGregor’s training camp leading into his bout with Donald Cerrone. When asked to describe it, Kavanagh said simply: “Perfect.”

Kavanagh went onto say that McGregor is “100% there” in terms of where he needs to be, noting, “We’re one week out to the day and he could fight tonight. 100%. He’s on weight, he’s as fit as — he’s fitter than I’ve ever seen him. He’s relaxed, he’s happy, he’s calm. It’s a cliche, but things could not have gone better.”

When asked about when McGregor might be able to fight again after Cerrone, Kavanagh said, “Any time around April would be nice, but I think what’s more important than that is what happens the week after the fight. He’s said it (that he’ll fight three times in 2010), so now he has to do it, now we’re back in the gym on Monday. So we’re back in the gym on Monday. I have a feeling the fight is gonna go a certain way. And I have a feeling that he’ll have a certain mindset when it’s over that if something was to come along in February, he’d jump in.”
