Anora was the big winner at the 97th annual Academy Awards, with The Brutalist not far behind. The Sean Baker-directed dramedy took home the most awards during Sunday’s telecast with five total awards, winning Best Picture, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Director (Baker), Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay (Baker). The victory capped off a hectic award season that saw the frontrunner change hands several times, with Anora carrying the momentum in the home stretch.

Meanwhile, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist won three awards as Adrien Brody won Best Actor, Daniel Blumberg won for Best Original Score and Lol Crawley won for Best Cinematography. The awards were much more spread out than last year’s dominating performance by Oppenheimer, with three films winning two awards each (Dune: Part Two, Emilia Perez, and Wicked) while the remaining awards were the sole victories for their respective films.

Among the other major category wins were Kieran Culkin, who won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Zoe Saldana winning Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Perez. Peter Straughan won Best Adapted Screenplay for Conclave, while Flow scored a minor upset by beating The Wild Robot for Best Animated Feature Film.

A few multiple nominees were left winless including A Complete Unknown (eight nominations), Nosferatu (four nods), Sing Sing (three nods), The Apprentice (two), and Nickel Boys (two).
