Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Batman.

The Batman takes a somewhat different tack to the murder of Thomas & Martha Wayne, and John Turturro weighed in on the twist. In the Matt Reeves-directed film, Turturro’s Carmine Falcone and Andy Serkis’ Alfred offer differing stories on what happened to Bruce’s parents, with Carmine saying that Sal Maroni was responsible while Alfred suspects Falcone himself of eliminating the Waynes for threatening to finger him as the murderer of a reporter.

Speaking with THR, Turturro said that what the viewer decides is more important . He noted, “I think there are people who tell you ‘I didn’t do something’ even if they did do it. And then after time, they believe the alternative version that they created. I thought he is a dangerous guy, and I think not seeing [the Waynes’ murder] was kind of great.”

Turturro also talked about contributing to Falcone’s look in the film, saying, “I thought, ‘I need a mask.’ And then I went to the lady where I buy all my vintage glasses and I found these glasses [worn in the film], and Matt loved them. Because a lot of those guys did wear dark glasses when they testified.”

The Batman is now in theaters.
