Die-hard Star Wars fans have been clamoring for a release of the original theatrical cut of the first three films in the franchise for so long it’s practically a cliché — but when asked about the chances, Jon Favreau opined that it’s a moot point at this stage (per JoBlo). Speaking recently with Moovy TV, the creator behind The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett related that the impetus for such a release isn’t really a significant issue in the current era. “Do you think anybody but us, like, the people who grew up with it, like anybody would care? Because I know to younger people…that’s what I figured out is that the younger people have a whole different perception of what Star Wars is,” Favreau stated. “Each generation. For the millennials, it’s the prequels. And for younger people–zoomers–sometimes it’s The Clone Wars.”

Favreau’s approach to Star Wars is, in his own words, focused on reaching as broad an audience as possible — a strategy that by definition isn’t only focused on appealing to the fanbase that remembers the original cuts. Favreau related the mindset behind developing The Mandalorian. “We were trying to say, ‘Hey, let’s try to do something that’s good for us, the people who’ve been around watching these movies since they were 10 years old. And also, could we make it for…new people who’ve never seen Star Wars?”
