The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has dropped a few new details on the characters in Captain Marvel. CBM has scans of the pages that have some new blurbs and quotes on the supporting cast. You can see transcriptions of the blurbs below.

Jude Law’s still-unnamed Starforce commander is described as follows: “Law’s military leader is Kree to the core — but he still has a soft spot for the part-human Carol. ‘He recognizes her as very special and as a great attribute to the Kree warriors,’ Law says.” It is widely believed, though not yet confirmed, that Law will be playing Mar-Vell, the Kree who was involved in Carol getting her powers and half-Kree status.

The other characters are described thusly:

Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan): “‘Before Carol joined the team, Minn-Erva was the star of Starforce,’ Chan said. ‘So she’s slightly threatened by someone else who has come in and is also very talented.'”

Korath (Djimon Hounsou): “Prior to meeting his end in Guardians, the Kree Persuer was a decorated Starforce member. ‘He’s still a humorless machine,’ Hounsou explains. ‘But we get to experience him at his infancy.'”

Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace): “The blue-skinned baddie from Guardians of the Galaxy is back — but he hasn’t yet become the radical Kree outcast aligned with Thanos.”

Talos (Ben Mendelsohn): “Mendelsohn has played many villains, but here he stars as both a nefarious Skrull leader and the human he impersonates. As Mendelsohn puts it: ‘It ain’t easy being green.'”

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson: “Jackson describes the young S.H.I.E.L.D. officer as ‘a normal kind of government badass’ — a badass who hasn’t yet met any superheroes.”

Phil Coulsen (Clark Gregg): “The newbie S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is just getting his feet wet. Remember in Iron Man when Coulson tells Tony this isn’t his first rodeo? ‘This might be the rodeo,’ Gregg says.”

Maria “Photon” Rembeau (Lashana Lynch): “Carol’s closest friend is an Air Force pilot and single mother. ‘Maria’s got a strength that’s undeniable in that you don’t feel like you need to help her,’ says Lynch.”

Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson in the titular role and releases on March 8th, 2019. The 1990s-set film follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
