Warner Bros. Animation & DC Studios Developing Blue Beetle Animated Series
Blue Beetle is looking to continue, albeit in animated form, with a series for the character in the works. THR reports that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing animated series that would follow up on the 2023 live-action film, which starred Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes, the titular hero.
Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) is set as the showrunner and director on the animated show, which will be written by Cristian Martinez (Good Trouble). Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and Angel Manuel Soto, who respectively wrote and directed the film, are set to executive produce alongside John Ricard and Galen Vaisman. Both of the latter names were EPs on the film.
Blue Beetle released in August of last year and was well received, but grossed just $130.8 million against a reported $120 million budget. James Gunn had previously said that the character would continue in the new DC Universe. No word as of yet on if Maridueña or the rest of the cast will be involved.
