AEW Continental Challenge Cup First Round: Nigel McGuinness Defeats Katsuyori Shibata to Advance

Nigel McGuinness is the latest to advance to the second round of the inaugural AEW Continental Challenge Cup.

Tonight’s episode of AEW Collision saw McGuinness battle The Opps’ Katsuyori Shibata in a first-round match.

The back-and-forth encounter ended in Nigel’s favor when he fell down and rolled backwards to counter the Sleeper Hold from Shibata into a pinning combination, securing the victory in the process.

McGuinness joins Claudio Castagnoli, Orange Cassidy, Eddie Kingston, Jay White, Continental Champion Jon Moxley, and Hechicero, who advanced earlier in the show, in the second round.
