AJ Lee Opens Up About Her WWE In-Ring Future

AJ Lee is keeping the door open for another WWE match, but she says her next in-ring appearance will depend on finding a storyline that genuinely excites her.

Lee last appeared on WWE at WrestleMania 42, where she lost the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch. Backstage reports have indicated that she might not return soon.

Speaking with Cheryl Strayed on Mind Over Mountain, Lee was asked what comes next for her in wrestling. She said her return reminded her that she can still perform at a high level. However, she explained that her return will depend on the story available to her (via Fightful):

“We’ll see. There was a piece of me where I was just like, ‘I just need a little time.’ When I did, I was like, ‘I’m still kind of killing it.’ I’m confident in what I can bring, but I feel like I’m also story-driven. If there is a story there, that’s going to be the thing that excites me. If it’s something new that I haven’t done and feels like breaking ground, that is what is interesting to me. We’ll see. I’m going to keep writing, working out, and staying ready,” she said.

Lee had previously been away from WWE following her participation in the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series before returning to feud with Lynch and winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber.
