AJ Styles Doubts Kenny Omega Will Ever Leave AEW, Talks Division Between WWE & AEW

Back in the mid-2010s, AJ Styles & Kenny Omega were key members of Bullet Club, the faction that helped revitalize New Japan Pro Wrestling and take it to new heights in the American market. While Styles & Omega had one singles match together in 2006, many hoped that they would meet again years later after their stars had risen. That match never took place due to Styles signing with WWE & Omega signing with AEW after their New Japan days ended. Neither man was interested in moving to the other side.

AJ Styles is now retired as a WWE guy, and he doesn’t see Omega retiring any place other than AEW. He discussed that along with some of his feelings about the WWE/AEW divide in the latest edition of his Phenomenally Retro podcast, some of the highlights are below.

On Whether He Thinks Kenny Omega Would Join WWE:

“Why? Why would you? I mean, he’s on the board when it comes to AEW. Uh, he’s put his heart and soul. It’s like me. Would we ever see AJ Styles in AEW? Why? Like, I like the company that I work for despite what everybody else thinks. My job is to do the best for the company that I’m working for.”

On His Defending WWE & Not Bashing AEW:

“I’ve said this before, it’s not me protecting WWE. It’s me protecting the people that work for WWE, my peers, and the guys that I care about, the women that I care about that are there. So, I will defend them because I know they’re busting their tail to put on a great show. I’m not going to bash AEW because those guys are doing the exact same thing. They think they’re, you know, whatever they’re doing and trying to be different and all these things. I get it. I get it. I’ve been there. So, I’m not going to do that. That’s not what I’m about. I think these guys to each their own. If you like one and don’t like the other, good. Good. But no reason to just bash because they’re different shows. I’m not gonna do that. It’s like you said a million times, it’s a great time to be a wrestling fan because there’s so much that you can watch.”
