AJ Styles on Dream Match With Kenny Omega: “It’s Never Going to Happen”

AJ Styles has addressed long-standing speculation about a potential match with Kenny Omega, stating that the matchup will not take place. He shared the update during an episode of his Phenomenally Retro podcast.

Styles and Omega previously faced each other in a singles match on the independent circuit in 2006. They later shared the ring in New Japan Pro-Wrestling during a tag team match at New Year Dash 2016. Following the match, Kenny turned heel on AJ and assumed leadership of the Bullet Club. The moment marked a shift in both careers, with Styles moving to WWE shortly afterward.

During the podcast, Styles said he would have been open to facing Omega earlier in their careers. However, he added that timing and circumstances did not allow for a high-profile match in a major promotion (via Fightful).

“I would have liked to have had a match with him anywhere, but it didn’t happen. I got too old and we went different places. It is what it is, it just wasn’t meant to be. It’s never going to happen. Just throwing that out there, it’s never going to happen. Never going to happen.”

Despite his in-ring retirement in January, AJ Styles has undertaken the role of a talent scout in WWE. Meanwhile, Kenny Omega remains active in All Elite Wrestling, where he continues to compete and serve as an EVP.
