As noted, veteran WWE NXT Superstar Wes Lee was recently released by WWE. Fightful Select Answers Q&A shed some more light on the former NXT North American Champion being cut from the roster.
During the Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast, Sean Ross Sapp noted that Lee’s release was not related to anything disciplinary, and the wrestler did nothing wrong. Also, Sapp notes that Lee’s release was internally viewed as the most surprising of all the recent wave of roster cuts. Sapp also expects Lee to do very well outside of WWE.
Wes Lee Found Decent Success During His WWE NXT Run
Wes Lee signed with WWE in late 2020, debuting in early 2021 alongside his former tag team partner, Nash Carter (aka Zach Wentz), as the tag team MSK. During their time as a tag team under the NXT banner, they won the NXT Tag Team Titles on two separate occasions.
Later on, Lee managed to capture the NXT North American Championship, marking his first WWE singles title. He won the vacant title in a five-way Ladder Match at NXT Halloween Havoc 2022. He held the title for almost a year, losing it 269 days later to Dominik Mysterio during a July 2023 edition of NXT TV.
It remains to be seen what’s next for Wes Lee.
