Backstage Note on WWE Worlds Collide Commentary

Even though WWE gave fans notice, many were surprised when WWE and AAA’s Worlds Collide event didn’t air online until Wednesday, having taken place the prior Saturday. JBL had said on his podcast that announcers weren’t being brought in live, in a change of plans after he had agreed to be there. On his podcast, he said he figured they’d be calling the show after the fact, in post-production.

As part of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp says he was told the commentary was recorded Monday or Tuesday, adding that internally, the company had known since August that it wasn’t going to be recorded live.

Nobody could have predicted the death of PAC, and subsequent AEW tribute show on Wednesday, turning Worlds Collide into competition for a memorial to a beloved athlete, something nobody at WWE apparently worried about. However, with the AAA show not being live and spoilers being out there, it didn’t have as urgent a must-see-live factor as your typical supercard. It’s not as if YouTube doesn’t allow rewinds.

Worlds Collide saw CM Punk, Rey Mysterio & El Grande Americano defeat JD McDonagh, Omos, & Dominik Mysterio. Mini Vikingo also defeated Axiom, EK Prosper and Je’Von Evans to win the #1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match for AAA World Cruiserweight Title Shot.
