Backstage Update on Brody King and MJF Missing Last Night’s AEW Dynamite

As previously reported, Warner Bros. Discovery denied any involvement in blocking Brody King from appearing on last night’s AEW Dynamite. It was initially reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that King was kept off AEW Dynamite, fearing that fans would start using more anti-ICE chants if he appeared, similar to the chants before his match with Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) on last week’s show. PWInsider has an update regarding why Brody King and MJF did not appear on last night’s show.

According to PWInsider’s report, multiple sources claim that King was never scheduled to appear on last night’s AEW Dynamite. Additionally, it’s said that King and other AEW wrestlers flew out of Los Angeles International Airport last night (Feb. 11) to Australia for this weekend’s AEW Grand Slam Australia event.

King and AEW World Champion MJF notably did not appear live on last night’s show, and their upcoming world title bout was promoted through a video package instead. However, PWInsider’s report indicates that AEW’s travel schedule was the cause of their absence from Dynamite, contradicting Meltzer’s report regarding WBD making the call to block him from appearing on the go-home show before Grand Slam Australia.

Brody King vs. MJF AEW World Title Bout Scheduled for Grand Slam Australia This Weekend

As noted, Warner Bros. Discovery denied the claim of blocking Brody King from appearing on last night’s Dynamite, with the following statement:

“Warner Bros. Discovery did not have any involvement in Brody King’s upcoming AEW schedule. Any speculation to the contrary is categorically false. Brody is scheduled to appear during the next AEW event, which will air this Saturday on TNT and HBO Max.”

Brody King vs. MJF for the AEW World Title takes place on Saturday, February 14 at AEW Grand Slam Australia. The event is being held at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. The show will air via delay on TNT, instead of Collision, at 8:00 pm ET and will be simulcast on HBO Max.
