Former WWE Superstar Carlito recently joined Insight with Chris Van Vliet to discuss his career, his romantic subplot with Raquel Rodriguez in The Judgment Day, and feeling love from fans when his WWE contract was renewed at the same time it appeared that R-Truth was parting ways with WWE. Below are some highlights from Insight:

Carlito on What Was Supposed To happen With His Storyline With Raquel Rodriguez

“Another thing, just like I was not the main focus of the Judgment Day. They were always Dom and Liv, so it’s these ideas they threw apart. But then there would be no follow-up. So Raquel and I would do little things to keep it going. So it’s kind of up to us. That was another thing, because it was another thing I could work off. Because going back to what I said, it’s probably this guy that doesn’t get the girl, so this was kind of the way I could be goofed by he to make it more comedic. So that was, yeah, those are just little things that we would do. But the origin that they said one week, and then after that, they didn’t bring it up anymore.”

On If It Was Leading To a Kiss Between Them

“I don’t know about that. Like I said, it was kind of just her and I just keeping the thing going. I remember, I don’t know if it was on Twitter or something, when this whole thing with Raquel started, somebody posted, ‘Isn’t Carlito like super old?’”

On WWE Releasing Him the Same Week It Looked Like R-Truth Was Released

“Yeah. That’s going back to why I signed the short deal. I wanted people to care when I was going to leave the company. So I felt that people cared, it was great. People cared when I left. So I didn’t want to be those guys that, towards the end, you don’t see him on TV, and then he gets released or this contract expires, but nobody even notices. So I was glad that people noticed.”

On If There Were Any Conversations About Bring Him Back Last Year

“No, it was no conversation, either way. I never spoke to them, they never spoke to me, just kind of let it run out.”

Carlito parted ways with WWE in June 2025 after his contract expired, and WWE opted not to renew his deal.
