During a recent interview with The Wrestling Classic, recently crowned TNA X-Division Champion Cedric Alexander discussed his title win over Leon Slater earlier this month on TNA iMPACT! As a result of the win, he kept Slater from becoming the longest-reigning X-Division Champion in TNA history.

Alexander also discussed how winning the X-Division Title was a key goal for his career, as the X-Division helped mold his love for wrestling. Below are some highlights:

On If Winning the X-Division Title Was Always a Goal for Him

“Oh my god, yes. All right, he’s got to date me a little bit here, but uh when when MySpace was still a thing, I had on my MySpace page the Exhibition Championship and I said my caption was under that it’s my birthright. And yeah, it was something for me that was very important to get on the list of accomplishments. There were two titles I wanted to win since I became a wrestling fan, and that was the WCW Cruiserweight Championship and the TNA X-Division Championship. Those are the two titles that in my heart of hearts I knew I had to win one day. And while I’m not quite there to get the WCW Championship, I got the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. That’s close enough. But then I got the actual real deal with the I can’t explain to you how happy being X-Division Champion makes me just knowing that I’m able to be in a club with guys that helped mold my love for wrestling. And now I get to set the standard for that now.”

Cedric Alexander on Denying Leon Slater From Becoming the Longest-Reigning X-Division Champion Ever

“You know, it’s a feather in the cap. You know, Leon being the longest reigning champion would have been great, but it feels that much better to be the guy to take it from him at the very last second. He’s already the youngest champion. He tied Austin Aries, you know, be happy with that. You know, I beat him and ended his reign one day short. Now I’m going to go on and be the longest reigning champion of all time.”

On How He’s Been Scouting Leon Slater

“Well, to be perfectly honest, I’ve scouted him enough times between tagging with him and and being in several matches against him o over the last year. Over the last year between between the Hardy Boys and Leon Slater, those are the those are the group of guys I’ve been in matches with sand or against the most within the last calendar year of of my time here in TNA. So, I feel like I know Leon very very well. He learned so much from the Hardies, you know what I mean? The Hardys, North Carolina, born and bred, baby. I know everything I need to know about the Hardys, you know. So, it was just it was just at one point, you know, I had I had to, you know, zero in on him, but he’s he’s a young talented athlete, so, you know, it might have taken me a few more tries than I wanted to, but I got the job done. That’s all that matters.
