WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair recently addressed her current run on SmackDown. Over the past year or so, fans have witnessed a never-before-seen side of Flair, with The Queen tagging alongside Alexa Bliss.
The alliance has allowed Charlotte to showcase her authentic self and has led fans to warm up to her. During a recent conversation with Dave LaGreca on Busted Open, Flair was asked about her current run.
While she admitted that she should be a main attraction and a top champion in WWE, Flair said that tagging with Alexa has helped her showcase her vulnerability and become a more interesting character, someone fans have been able to relate to. The 14-time World Champion claimed that the past 12 months have been the best period of her career, and she has never been more versatile. Here’s what she said:
Charlotte Flair on Being Able To Showcase Her Versatility
“Do I agree that I should be a main attraction? Yes. Do I think that I should be looked at and marketed like that champion that you’re thinking? Yes. But I think being in this tag [team], whether it’s slow or not for some of my fans, I think there is a bigger picture and that I’m going to keep working towards, keep fighting for what I see. You’re going to get that, like, ‘That’s the champion we know.’”
“So, in me being able to be comedic with Lexi or in the tag or working with so many different characters, and I don’t want to say underdog, but I’m kind of like, am I kind of like an underdog right now? A little bit. But I think it’s just showing that vulnerability and showing that, like, ‘Hey, I don’t need to have a main…’ Like, I’m interesting. And I think people just got, like, ‘How do you relate to being great?’ But they just didn’t realize, like, what it took and the sacrifice to, like, ‘Hey, I’m a character, but I was actually really good at being bad, and it was almost too good at being bad.’”
Charlotte on Having the Best Year of Her Career for the Past 12 Months
“That I always do, or that I need to keep showing up, because I do. I wake up in the morning and go, ‘I’m the greatest!’ Yes! But I don’t rest on just people like you saying it. Like, I really want to feel and embody what it means to be the greatest and show up, and that’s still evolving because I truly believe that was, like, the best year of my career, and I’ve never been more versatile. So I’m like, ‘If I can do that in a year that everyone had kind of, I felt, written me off, imagine what I can do in five years.'”
Charlotte and Alexa added Tatum Paxley to their alliance last Friday night on SmackDown, with the former NXT Women’s Champion helping Flair beat Jade Cargill in the main event.
