Backstage Talk Continues About Chris Jericho Potentially Returning to WWE

Speculation around Chris Jericho potentially returning to WWE in early 2026 continues to gain momentum backstage. Industry chatter increasingly frames the move as likely, though nothing has been confirmed publicly.

According to recent reporting from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there has been “a lot of talk”  about Jericho resurfacing on WWE programming, possibly as soon as the January 5 episode of WWE RAW. Despite the noise, neither WWE nor Jericho’s representatives have issued an official statement. Dave Meltzer noted that within wrestling circles, the situation is being discussed “like it was happening.” He framed it as an expectation rather than a confirmation. Meltzer also pointed out that no one involved has outright denied the rumors. At the same time, some WWE sources have told him “not to believe anything said about it.”

Meltzer referenced Jericho’s history with surprise returns to explain why fans should avoid locking onto specific dates. In a past WWE comeback, Jericho reportedly shifted his debut after word leaked, intentionally delaying it to subvert expectations. That incident has led many to speculate that a similar approach could be in play again.

The rumors have intensified as Jericho’s current deal with All Elite Wrestling is widely believed to expire at the end of 2025. Combined with Jericho openly stating his intent to continue wrestling into 2026, the possibility of a final WWE run feels plausible to many observers. For now, the story remains unconfirmed.

Jericho is, of course, the lead signer of heavy-metal band Fozzy and in addition to WWE and AEW, has had memorable runs in WCW, ECW, and Mexico.
