Ciocco’s AEW Dynamite Review 3.18.26

Loading...SICKOS! It’s Wednesday, you know what that means! AEW Dynamite is LIVE tonight from Fresno, California, and Howdy Dog do we have a lot to unpack after what transpired this past Sunday at Revolution!
New beginnings and returns were the name of the game, both during matches and after matches took place. For instance, after FTR retained their AEW Tag Team Titles against the Young Bucks, the long-rumored return of Cage and Copeland came to be, as they attacked the champions and Big Stoke.
Meanwhile, after Timeless Toni Storm defeated Marina Shafir with the Big Package, Marina’s friend and Four Horsewomen of MMA compatriot Ronda Rousey showed up out of nowhere and seemingly challenged Storm to a future match.
After a hard-fought match between the two most dangerous men in AEW wherein Swerve Strickland defeated Brody King after THREE House Calls, Kenny Omega made his return and ran off Strickland and Prince Nana.
But perhaps the biggest return of them all (although we knew his return was imminent) was that of one Billy Goat BRUV Will Ospreay! After Jon Moxley retained his Continental title against Konosuke Takeshita, Ospreay returned to attack the man response for his lengthy injury stay and also took out the other Death Riders as well.
And so that brings us to tonight, as Ospreay is wasting no time getting back into the ring, as he will face Blake Christian in what could one heck of a sneaky match. Ospreay proved, at least in a limited window, that he hadn’t lost a step and there was no ring rust, but we’ll see how he fares in his first in-ring match in months.
The rest of the card announced so far pairs variations of rematches from Revolution, starting with Storm and Shafir facing off again except this time it will be in a No Holds Barred Match. I’m guessing this is a way to continue to integrate Rousey into the feud, but we’ll see if this is a long term or short-term affair.
Darby Allin is no stranger to the Casket Match, and even though he hasn’t always won them all, it is his signature match. He’ll add another one to his resume tonight as he faces off with the MADMAN Gabe Kidd. Gabe might be a MADMAN, but Darby is insane, so I wonder what gives in this one. All of this and, of course, so much more in store for us tonight!
So, how is everyone doing on this Hump Day? I hope no one is still hungover from celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and is able to remain functional in the middle of the week lol. Without a concrete job yet, I don’t have that problem, although I don’t even drink anymore, so I guess that’s no fun lol.
But enough about me and enough about you, let’s get ready to make the Dynamite go BOOM!

But first, a recap from Revolution, touted as one of the greatest events in AEW history. I feel like that’s a severe understatement. After all, our very own Theo Sambus gave the show a 9.4! Also, they used “Never Enough” by Turnstile as the show’s theme song, so that’s cool in my book!

Will Ospreay vs. Blake Christian
Always cool to see the Vanilla Baby on AEW TV, but this is, obviously, an adamant conclusion. Excalibur also mentions during Will’s entrance that Timeless Toni Storm will not be able to compete tonight, so my future Ex-Wife Mina Shirakawa will take her place. Talk about continued mistreatment.
The bell rings, but Christian leaves the ring and walks around for a bit. He gets back into the ring and Ospreay takes a headlock. Christian with a shoulder tackle, Ospreay kips up, Blake flips him off, and Will smacks the taste out of his mouth lol. Christian is on the floor, Ospreay heads out to the apron, but Blake pulls him of the apron and clotheslines him. He hits a standing splash on the floor!
Christian returns Ospreay to the ring and tries the running splash again, but Will gets his knees up this time. Christian again ends up on the floor, and Ospreay wipes him out with a Tope! Will interacts with the fans at ring side, and he sends Blake back into the ring. But he takes way too long and Christian hits a tope suicida! Christian takes Will to the barricade and tries to do a guillotine, but Will avoids it and lands some shots.
Ospreay returns Christian to the ring and hits a springboard elbow for a two. Christian puts an end to Will’s offense with a neck breaker over the knee, which causes concern for Will’s neck. Shaun Smith backs off Christian, but Blake proceeds to stomps on Will’s neck and then chokes him against the bottom rope. Christian with a neck crank, Ospreay to his feet, Will with a lariat and his handspring back elbow! That gets him a two.
Ospreay presses Christian to the mat, but his standing twist misses, and Christian hits a DDT. Ospreay to the floor, and Christian around the corner with another DDT. Back in the ring, and Blake gets a two. Cutter from Christian also for a two. Christian looking sliced bread, but Ospreay lands on his feet. Reversals galore ends with a knee strike and a standing sliced bread from Christian for another two.
Christian takes off his wrist band, flips off Ospreay, but his Hidden Blade misses. Will says here’s how you do it BRUV and he clocks Christian from behind with THE Hidden Blade for the win!
WINNER: Will Ospreay

THOUGHTS: Well, can’t say that Christian didn’t get a TON of offense in here. Ospreay won, which was the end game, but I wonder how good he really will be moving forward. This was a good sign, however, and a better-than-expected match!
RATING: ***3/4
Post-match, Will has a mic. OI! I bloody missed all of you guys! Jon Moxley! Would you like to know the biggest difference between me and you? I don’t need a weapon to snap someone’s neck; I can do it with my bare fucking hands!
Suffice to say that’ll get a response from the Continental Champion, as Moxley is out with Hoodie Yuta. Ospreay doesn’t give a damn, as he attacks both Moxley and Yuta in the crowd! He throws a trash can at both Yuta and Moxley. Jon stumbles his way into the ring and Ospreay looks to hit the Storm Breaker, but PAC is here! He kicks Ospreay in the face and locks in the Brutalizer! Security and referees get PAC out of the ring, as the doctor checks on Ospreay.
The Bang Bang Gang are here! GUNS UP! Meanwhile, Ospreay runs up the ramp and dives onto PAC! Chaos everywhere!
Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta vs. Juice Robinson and Ace Austin
After being attacked by Ospreay and beaten with trash cans, Moxley and Yuta jump Austin and Robinson before the bell. The bell rings officially, with Robinson and Yuta in the ring. Kick to the gut, whip, and clothesline from Juice. He mounts Yuta in the corner and lands the southpaw punches. Austin tags in and he lands more corner punches. Robinson back in, double hip toss, basement dropkick from Austin, backsplash from Juice, but Yuta kicks out at two.
Moxley gets the tag and he proceeds to chop Robinson. Juice fires back, but Jon with a kick and a suplex attempt. Robinson reverses it through and tags in Ace. Austin with chops and forearms, Austin trips up Moxley, he slides around him and kicks him in the side of the head. Yuta is in, but Austin treats him like a dumbbell and hits a DVD! Austin takes flight and wipes out Moxley on the floor, but Yuta sneaks in from behind and throws Austin into the ring steps. Wheeler celebrates as we head out for the break.
Moxley is stretching out Austin as we return. Moxley with a variation of the STF that he turns into the cross face. Austin rolls through and grabs the ropes for the break. Moxley picks up Austin, but Ace scores with a roundhouse kick. Moxley hits the mat but he’s able to tag in Yuta. Wheeler says SO SORRY as he goes after Austin, but Ace rolls through, kicks Yuta away, and tags in Robinson.
Juice is in with clotheslines and an Atomic Drop. He misses Yuta once but not twice, as he hits a lariat. Robinson with the punches, but Daniel Garcia gets on the apron! Austin Gunn pulls him down and they brawl. Robinson hits a powerbomb with a high stack on Yuta, but Yuta kicks out at two. Austin with the tag, scoop slam, but Austin eats the knees of Yuta. He tags in Moxley, Yuta hits the Busaiku Knee to Robinson, and Moxley with the Death Rider to Ace and that’s game!
WINNERS: Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta
TIME: 11:05
THOUGHTS: Moxley was getting the win here after he got attacked at Revolution and also tonight by Ospreay. Great showing from the BBG, but it didn’t matter in the end.

Video package for tonight’s Coffin Match between Darby Allin and Gabe Kidd. Allin said the line, you know, it’s SHOWTIME, so I wonder if that means Sting will appear.
Apparently that match is next, as we see the graphic during Gabe Kidd’s comments in the back. He isn’t waiting for Darby; he wants that rat to meet him in the parking lot. Also, he’s a MADMAN. He didn’t say it, but it’s implied.

Kenny Omega had comments at Revolution. SWERVE! You might think you are dangerous, so let’s play a game of risk. If you are as dangerous as you say you are, then put that number one contendership on the line against me, winner takes all. Hit me back, Swerve! But Kenny must bid us adieu, so goodbye, MUAH, and goodnight, BANG!
We get a look at the coffin inside the arena before we cut outside to the MADMAN, who is waiting for Darby to show up! Allin eventually shows up in his car fresh off the Demolition Derby circuit, and he jumps out of the care and chokes out Kidd! Gabe tries to fight back, but Allin goes into his backpack and pours liquid onto a cloth. He smothers Kidd with it and then puts him in the trunk. Allin gets back into the car and drives into a bunch of refuse, flipping the car upside down! Allin breaks what is left of the driver’s door and escapes. The trunk magically opens itself up and Kidd falls out gasping for air. Allin has a road case that he puts Kidd on, and he pushes it inside the arena.
Coffin Match: Gabe Kidd vs. Darby Allin
The bell rings as soon as Allin rolls Kidd into the arena on the gear box. Allin opens the gear box and has a straitjacket and his skateboard. He sets up a chair and sits Kidd in it. He slaps him a couple of times and tries to apply the straitjacket. It appears that Darby has fastened the rest of the jacket, but he manages to kick Allin and then push him into the ring steps.
Kidd tries to open the casket, but he quickly learns that it is hard to do when he’s in a straitjacket, so he bites and chews on the ear of Allin. He finally manages to open the casket lid, but he decides to slam the lid on the fingers of Darby instead. Kidd stares on like a MADMAN as we go to the break!
Kidd has Allin mounted on the top rope as we return. Allin reverses this by biting Kidd (hey, turnabout is fair play) and he hits an avalanche Code Red! WE WANT TABLES, insist the SICKOS, as Allin finishes fastening the straps on that straitjacket. Scorpion Death Drop from Allin! Darby to the top looking for what may have been the Coffin Drop, but Kidd kicks referee Brandon Martinez into the ropes, causing Allin to fall on his nuts. Kidd with an enziguri and a headbutt, sending Allin to the floor.
Kidd tries to close the coffin lid on Allin, but Darby bites his nose. Kidd rolls back into the ring, as Allin grabs his skateboard and beats on Kidd with it. Allin to the top and hits a Coffin Drop! Not content with one he hits a second one. The fans want one more, but Allin drags Kidd towards the coffin. Kidd tries to fight him off, but Allin trips him up with his belt. Allin heads into the ring, and he hits a Tope Suicida, knocking Kidd into the coffin and closing the lid in the process!
WINNER: Darby Allin
TIME: 9:55 (official match time)
THOUGHTS: I have many thoughts about this, but I think the one prevailing thought has to be, how much can I suspense my belief when it comes to matches like this? It wasn’t good at all, but hey, at least we saw the MADMAN get put into the coffin. So, cool?
RATING: **1/4
Post-match, Darby has the mic. He says he will keep the throttle down until he either meets God or the “AW” World Champion. Maxwell Jacob Friedman, I’m coming for that title.
We learn that Swerve has a counteroffer for Omega. We’ll hear about that later on!
Video package for the Jurassic Express! We see Jungle Jack Perry get his stuff ready for a bus ride from Los Angeles to Fresno. Perry whistles and a squirrel appear on his arm. Luchasaurus shakes his head. We see their traverse on a map of California, and they arrive at the arena. Perry says that Revolution was a good night for him and his family, and tonight, he will team with two guys he considers his best friends. Enter the Young Bucks. They say Sunday was not a good night for their family, but tonight, they take it out on that traitor Kazuchika Okada and the Don Callis Family.

Prince Nana is here post-break. He wants all of us to get on to our feet for one of the most important people in AEW. Did you see what he did at Revolution? Did you see the carnage that he inflicted? That’s why we call him the Most Dangerous Man in AEW! Without further ado, Mr. Dangerous himself, Swerve Strickland!
Swerve arrives as he walks his way down to the ring. Nana gets him a chair so Swerve can take a seat in the middle of the ring. The lights go out with a spotlight on Swerve. Power. This past Sunday at Revolution, me and Brody King went to war. But the only true winners in war are those with power. If you ask me, did I enjoy beating that man in his home state of California, yes, I was. Am I satisfied? No, because the power lies elsewhere. And sometimes, the power is more important than titles. He’s dealt with power since he was 17 in the military, when he was travelling the Indies, and when he was stuck in developmental. Truth be told, if it wasn’t for the Young Bucks, he would be a two-time champion now.
And that brings him to Kenny Omega. Apparently, unbeknownst to him (and me as well) Swerve is the number one contender for the World Title. And Omega wants that and he wants to leverage everything. What does Swerve get from that? But there is one thing that interests him, and that is his power. Kenny, he doesn’t want you removed from power, I want your power. And I want to block out anyone else thinking they can get it. So, you want this rematch between you and me? Offer up your EVP status. And to make things clear, when I beat you, I, Swerve Strickland, will become AEW’s new Executive Vice President.
Strickland stares into the abyss as the camera fades out.
We head to the back to the Remarkable Renee Paquette with Speedball Mike Bailey! Renee says Sunday was a star making night, and Bailey says that Kevin Knight has that star power. He had to wrestle around the world for 20 years in order to get people to notice him. He looks up to people like Kenny Omega. And now, he can be the mentor for a future superstar in AEW like Kevin.
Dunkzilla is here in a varsity jacket! Maybe he does dunk basketballs!
Mark Davis vs. AEW Trio’s Champion Speedball Mike Bailey
Bailey plays keep away from his bigger opponent at the bell. Bailey corners Davis and he land some kicks. He sends Davis to the apron, but Mark is back in and he hits a scoop slam and a back splash. Cocky cover from Davis gets him a two.
Davis chops three layers of skin off the chest, but Bailey responds with a missile dropkick. Excalibur takes time to remind us that Collision will be split up over Saturday and Sunday Night after March Madness ends! Speedball hits a standing SSP, but Davis kicks out at one.
Davis rolls out to the apron, Bailey with a kick. Davis doesn’t budge, so Bailey tries again. Davis yells at him, so Bailey trips him up and dropkicks him to the floor. Bailey takes flight with the Crossover moonsault as we head out for the break!
Davis admires his handiwork as we return. We see that’s because Davis managed to hit a side suplex on the apron to Bailey. Davis clocks Bailey and heads to the top with him like he is King Kong. Bailey fights his way free and lands on the apron. He lands three kicks to the chest, but Davis won’t go down. Avalanche Liger Bomb, but Davis kicks out at two! Bailey to the top, Shooting Star Press connects, but Davis kicks out at 2.5!
Davis cuts off Bailey’s kick with a discus lariat as Excalibur says Tony Khan has made it official for next week on Dynamite, it will be Omega-Strickland II! Davis and Bailey enter a slapping battle, Davis off the ropes, Bailey with a hook kick, and both men hit the mat!
Both men get back to their feet. Bailey with chops, Davis eats them and floors Bailey with one strike. Davis with a gut wrench, but Bailey fights him off, so Davis lands knees and a chop. BT Bomb, but Bailey kicks out at 2.8! Bailey rolls to the corner, so Davis lands a running elbow strike. Davis lifts up Bailey, but Mike out the backdoor looking backslides. Bailey kicks him in the back of the head and tries again. Davis with an enziguri, he runs the ropes and trucks Bailey. Piledriver from Davis, but Bailey kicks out at 2.5!
Davis is in shock as he goes after Bailey, but Speedball kicks him out of his offense. Bailey with the Time and Adventure! Mike to the top, Ultimo Weapon connects, and Speedball wins!
WINNER: Speedball Mike Bailey

THOUGHTS: Not going to lie, when Davis hit the feared piledriver, I thought it was over. But Bailey fought back and pulled through. After that cluster of a Casket match, this was a fair palette cleanser.

Excalibur prattles off matches for this Saturday’s one-hour edition of Collision. We get words from MJF after his match at Revolution. They call him Mr. Revolution! They say adrenaline is a powerful thing, and it’s starting to wear off a little bit, and he is feeling every bump and bruise from this match. Today is his 30th birthday, and he has already achieved more than a lot of Hall of Famers. He has a few people that he wanted to take off the board, and one of those names was Hangman Page! Enjoy being in the mid-card for the next 20 years, buddy! There is only one name you need to know for the next 20 years, and that is the Hewbrew Hammer, Maxwell Jacob Friedman! He wants the cameraman to ask him how he will celebrate his victory, so he does, and MJF says he is going to Disneyland before he kisses the camera.

Kazuchika Okada and the Don Callis B-Team are here post-break. Okada laughs at the notion that he was family with the Young Bucks. Trent says the Jurassic Bus is stupid. Okada takes a shot at Takeshita, Rocky says something about family, and Trent says this win is for you, Don!
We see Toni Storm was attacked earlier tonight. Wait, didn’t they say she got injured at Revolution? Someone make up my mind, damn it! Marina is here and she throws her socks at commentary. I hope Tony doesn’t pick them up and keep them. Mina is here with a barbed wire baseball bat. I’ve never been so turned on.
No Holds Barred: Mina Shirakawa vs. Marina Shafir
Mina swings for the fences as the bell rings. She manages to hit Marina in the leg with it, but Shafir cuts off her next strike and disarms Mina. Marina says she doesn’t need a bat, but she goes to use it anyway, only to miss Mina. Shirakawa lands kicks to the arm and the back of Shafir.
Mina goes under the ring, and she finds the champagne bottle and the ice bucket! Mina goes to strike Shafir, but Marina disarms her and trips to the mat. Mike Posey removes the bottle from the ring as Shafir spams judo throws. Like a true edgelord, she flips off the fans, and we’ll head out for break.
Shafir is sipping on the champagne as we return. She spits it in the face of Mina, but Mina decks Shafir, causing the bottle to bounce and the bubbly to explode. Mina goes for the chair in the ring, Shafir cuts her off, but Mina reverses with tilt-a-world onto the chair. Mina heads to the top and hits a missile dropkick. Mina whacks Shafir on the back with the chair and she sets it up in the corner. Mina again heads to the top, and she hits the Sling blade onto the chair! The cover, but Marina kicks out at two.
Mina looking Figure-Four, but Marina kicks her out to the apron. Mina looks for her springboard splash, but Marina intercepts her and tries for the Mother’s Milk. Mina gouges the eyes of Shafir to break the hold. Shafir heads to the outside and she grabs a table. That finally wakes the crowd up as a chant for the object that Marina just brandished. California education in full effect!
Mina and Marina do battle on the apron. Marina screams DO BETTER MINA, and Shafir scoops up Mina and hits a side suplex through the table! It was Marina putting herself through the table, although Mina may have smacked her head on the edge of the table. I’ll be back guys.
Marina rolls Mina back into the ring, and Mina kicks out of her cocky cover at two. Marina argues with Posey, allowing Mina to grab the champagne bottle. She hits Shafir in the head with it, and she delivers the Storm Zero! Mina wins! I repeat, MINA WINS!!!!
WINNER: Mina Shirakawa

THOUGHTS: HOLY CRAP MINA WON!
RATING: All the stars in the known universe!
Commentary seems to imply that Mina may have attacked Toni Storm, but they can EAD.
Renee is in the back with Andrade El Idolo. Before Andrade can talk, Jon Cruz is here. He is sorry to interrupt, but he has a briefcase for Andrade. He says this is from MJF. He also has Don Callis on his phone. Andrade wants to know why they are working with MJF, but Callis says he agreed to help him with his Darby Allin problem (which is total BS by the way). Callis calls Andrade his money man and hangs up. Cruz takes his leave, and Andrade has his money.
The main event (with 1/2 worthy main event talent) is up next!

The Young Bucks and AEW National Champion Jungle Jack Perry vs. AEW international Champion Kazuchika Okada and RPG Vice
I’m sorry, but out of all of the 20,000 DCF members, having Rocky and Trent in the main event is like granting a Make-A-Wish request.
Perry and Okada will start us off. Makes sense, they’re both champions. Okada ducks Perry and flips off the Bucks lol. Perry with strike, but Okada rakes his eyes and flips him off too lol. Stop being an Edgelord BITCH, Okada! RPG Vice think they are cool shit and attack the Bucks, but they get tripped up and taken to the floor before they can fly. Perry and the Bucks circle Okada. He begs for forgiveness and wants to do the Elite pose before trying to attack, but that obviously doesn’t end well for him.
RPG Vice are back, and everyone hits their shit. Nick Jackson takes flight and hits a tope suicida onto RPG Vice and Okada. Perry follows that up with a moonsault onto all three opponents. Okada is returned to the ring, and Perry hits a corner clothesline. Romero grabs Perry by the foot, as Okada and Beretta take care of the Bucks. Perry gets singled out by all three guys, and they take time to pose as we head out for our final break.
Okada has complete control of Perry as we return. That is, until he misses his flying elbow in the corner. Perry hits the comebacker lariat as both men are down. BTW, I’m just noticing that the mat still has champagne stains on it lol. Nick Jackson gets the tag, as does one of the RPG Vice guys, but both of them enter anyway. Nick takes care of them. Okada comes in, but he escapes before he can eat a SUPERKICK> Locomotion from Matt Jackson, and the third suplex captures both Rocky and Trent. Tag to Nick, and they hit stereo elbow drops to RPG Vice.
The Bucks insist on a SUPERKICK PARTY, but Rocky manages to redirect Matt to kick Nick. Rocky wants a Superkick, but Trent kicks him by accident. RPG Vice both get swept up into Sharpshooters! Perry intercepts Okada and he applies the Snare Trap! Rick Knox doesn’t know who he is going to check on!
The match resets, as the Bucks look for the Meltzer Driver on Rocky, but Trent trips up Matt. They fight him off and try again, but Okada intercepts Matt with a dropkick. Assisted Storm Zero by RPG Vice on Matt, but Perry breaks up the pin. Rocky, Trent, and Okada mock the Bucks Pose and try a triple tombstone, but they bite their way free. Triple SUPERKICK to Rocky and he eats the EVP Trigger! The Bucks launch Perry into the running knee strike, and the good guy’s win!
WINNERS: Jack Perry and the Young Bucks
TIME: 12:00
THOUGHTS: I know it is going to get beaten to death, but when you see Rocky and Trent in the main event, Okada stood no chance. And as such, the Bucks and Perry took full advantage, as evidenced by Rocky eating all the match ending offense. A fine main event, but not great.
RATING: ***1/2
The Bucks have the mic post-match. Nick says tonight’s win is bittersweet, because Sunday at Revolution, they let their family down. They were so confident that they were going to win that they had their entire family at ring side. They are man enough to admit that FTR are the better team.
Matt says that he couldn’t look his family in the eye that night after they lost. Their dad told them that they still have fans that care about them in arenas around the world and they will make it back. Matt says if they have to start at the bottom and claw their way back up to the top then so be it, because there isn’t a team in AEW that will stop them.
YOU THINK YOU KNOW HIM? Of course, that is a cue for Adam Copeland and Christian Cage to come out to shut that claim up. Copeland has the mic. Never thought you would see this, huh? Listen, guys, this is going to sound cliche, but they respect the hell out of the Bucks. That match on Sunday was one of the best matches he has ever laid his eyes on. So, don’t ever hang your head in defeat, because you are better than that.
However, Copeland says he can relate to the Bucks, because FTR also attacked their family. Beth Phoenix is a badass, they don’t call her the Glamazon for no reason. But while they were waiting to see if she needed spinal fusion surgery, Adam couldn’t look her in the eye. But now that he got his ass back here, there is one thing that you do to hurt a team like FTR. You can’t hurt them or their families; you take the titles from them. At Dynasty, it will be FTR-CC Part 2 for the Tag Team Titles in Vancouver.
Cage says that it may be personal for you three guys, but for him, if he has the titles, he makes more money. But it is personal for him, because they want to prove that they are the best tag team of their generation, and also the best tag team of the Buck’s generation.
That brings out FTR and Big Stoke. HOLY CRAP, STOKE IS WALKING, YOU GUYS, IT’S A MIRCLE! Stoke goes to talk, but everyone in the ring tells him to shut up. Foolishly, FTR hit the ring, with four guys in it, and obvious results are obvious.
