CM Punk Explains Why He Wants Sami Zayn to Win Undisputed WWE Title No.1 Contender’s Match at SummerSlam Night Two

CM Punk was at his aggressive best at the WWE SummerSlam: Minnesota Night One, as he delved into the number-one contender’s match for his title between Sami Zayn and Finn Balor tomorrow night.

As noted, Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, thanks to interference from a returning Randy Orton in the final stage of the match on Night One. The Best in the World will now defend his title against either Zayn or Balor at a future date.

At the SummerSlam 2026 Night One Post Show, Punk was asked about who he wants to see emerge victorious in the number-one contender’s match. Punk said that he wrestled his friend Cody Rhodes tonight and doesn’t want to trade shots with another friend in Finn Balor in the coming weeks. Hence, he wants Sami Zayn to win tomorrow night so that he can punch the latter’s “stupid, loud mouth” for fun. Punk went off on Sami, noting that he paved the way for Zayn’s current rebellious attitude and that he’ll gladly beat the respect out of him.

Punk ultimately said that he doesn’t care about who wins tomorrow’s match and then proceeded to take a shot at RAW’s ratings, offering to show up to boost the show’s viewership. Here’s what CM Punk said:

“I just wrestled a friend of mine in Cody Rhodes. Finn Balor is somebody who I consider a friend, Sami Zayn not so much. As much as I would like Finn to progress, I don’t know if I want to wrestle a friend again when I can punch Sami Zayn in his stupid loud mouth. He wants to say all these things, all these cool buzzwords, ‘Oh, I’m a hypocrite. I’m a fraud!’ Brother, you’re following in my footsteps, echoing the same things that I said down cross-legged on a stage in Las Vegas 15 years ago to open up doors for little jerks like you. And I did it, and I paved the way, and if you won’t show me some respect, I will beat it out of you.

“I don’t care who wins that match tomorrow. I’ll see him Friday in Philly. I’ll go to RAW and wrestle. They need the ratings boost. Let’s go!”
