CM Punk teased his expected WWE Smackdown return during his gig at the commentary desk for CFFC on Friday night. As noted, the former World Champion returned to the commentary desk at CFFC 156 at Illinois’ Hard Rock Casino Rockford on Friday.
During the broadcast, Punk made reference to the notion that he won’t be available on Fridays soon. John Morgan asked Punk if he would be available for the next event, and Punk deadpanned, “Is that a Friday? I don’t know… It’s a Friday? I don’t know if I can make it.”
Punk hasn’t been on WWE TV since the Raw after WrestleMania 42, when he appeared in a segment with Cody Rhodes and teased the notion of going after Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship when he returned. Punk has been expected to make his return to TV in the build to SummerSlam. WWE has yet to confirm Punk’s return to TV.
Punk also made a Terry Funk reference on the show. When Morgan said that they brought the event to Punk, who is from Chicago, he quipped “I don’t travel anymore. My horse is sick.” Funk used the same excuse when he dodged being one of Jerry Lawler’s masked knights at WWE Survivor Series 1993.
