Cody Rhodes vs. Sami Zayn WWE Undisputed Title Match Announced for Next Week’s WWE Raw

Just announced by WWE, reigning WWE Undisputed Champion Sami Zayn will defend his title against former champion Cody Rhodes next week at Monday Night Raw in San Diego, California. You can see the announcement for the matchup below.

The announcement doesn’t make it clear if this will be an off-air dark match for the live crowd, or if it will be televised. It reads, “JUST ANNOUNCED! Get your tickets now to see Undisputed WWE Champion @SamiZayn vs. @CodyRhodes LIVE this Monday in San Diego!” The graphic appears to imply it will be an off-air dark match, but we shall see.

Ironically enough, Sami Zayn was previously scheduled to defend the WWE Title against Cody Rhodes at WWE Raw in Chicago on July 6. However, Rhodes got taken out by Gunther at the start of the show. As a result, Zayn ended up facing a returning CM Punk as a surprise opponent. Punk then beat Zayn to win the belt.

Sami Zayn later regained the title from CM Punk on WWE SmackDown on Sept. 11. Now, the title match originally scheduled for Raw on July 6 takes place over three months later.

Monday Night Raw will be held at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California on Monday, October 19.
