– Tonight will look at the fallout from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018; we open up with highlights from the show.
Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans: Nikki attacks at the bell, but Evans cuts her off. Nikki to the floor and she then beats on Evans, trapping her in the ring skirt. Back in and Evans pulls Nikki off the ropes, covering for 2. Evans continues to lay in ground and pound, and celebrates before missing a second rope moonsault. Nikki fires up, lays in forearms and clotheslines. The fisherman’s neck breaker finishes it. Nikki Cross defeated Lacey Evans @ 2:28 via pin [NR] This was a short, but solid little match. Cross gets back into the mix of things with a win, and Evans is showing some potential as a heel.
– We get highlights of the tag title match from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018.
– We get highlights of the NXT Women’s title match from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018.
– We get an interview with Baszler after the match. She says Moon survived, and that she’s the real winner since she hurt Moon. They also recap Moon entering the Rumble.
– We get highlights of Cole vs. Black from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018.
– We then see footage of Cole and the Gang reacting to Sanity getting involved in that match. Sanity gets their tag title rematch against Fish & O’Reilly next week.
– We then get footage of Ohno vs. Dream from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018.
– We then get Dream commenting on the match. Dream says it was Dream over for Ohno.
TM-61(Nick Miller & Shane Thorne) vs. The Ealy Brothers: This is TM-61’s return after a year out of action, due to Thorne’s knee injury. Miller into begin, laying in chops on an Ealy. He and Thorne work double teams, and clear the ring. Thorne then busts out a Fosbury flop to the floor. Back in and the double teams continue, Miller in control but the twins pull the switch and cut Miller off. They now work double teams, and isolate Miller. Miller fights back, hits a clothesline and Thorne tags in and runs wild. The corner cannonball follows. The Saito suplex follows, Miller in and hits the moonsault but the other Ealy makes the save. He’s dumped, and thunder valley gets the win for TM-61. TM-61 defeated The Ealy Brothers @ 3:22 via pin [**] This was a good return for TM-61, they looked good, mostly dominated, and had the crowd with them. They also looked as if they hadn’t missed a beat. Hopefully they can stay injury free and work to their true potential.
– TM-61 are interviewed, and say that they are so much more now. They are the mighty, and the mighty don’t kneel.
– Back to NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018, with a look Gargano vs. Almas.; it was amazing. We get backstage footage of Ciampa ignoring interviewers and leaving, dragging his crutch behind him. They also recap Almas entering the Rumble.
– Vega talks about Almas’ successful Rumble weekend.
– They talk about EC3 appearing at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia 2018, and his signing with NXT. They then recap Adam Col appearing in the Royal Rumble.
– Adam Cole faces Killian Dain next week, Sanity gets their tag title rematch against Fish & O’Reilly, also next week.
UK Title #1 Contender’s Match: Tyler Bate vs. Roderick Strong: They lock up, Bate with some slick escapes and grounds the action. They pick up the pace and Bate hits a dropkick. The airplane spin follows, but Strong counters out and hits a back breaker for 2. Strong follows with chops, Bate fires back, but Strong cuts him off, hitting another back breaker for 2. Strong lays in chops and kicks, and then grounds the action. Strong then catches a cross body, hits a back breaker and then tosses Bate to the corner, covering for 2. Post break, and Bate is trying to fight back, but Strong cuts him off with a modified, standing bow and arrow. Bate escapes, hits a jawbreaker and then the left jab, dropping Strong. He follows with uppercuts, the running boot and then running uppercuts. The knee strike follows and then the dead lift German connects for 2. Strong fights off the XPLODER, but Bate hits it on the second try, the running shooting star press follows for 2. bate heads up top, but Strong stops that and follows him up. Bate fights off the superplex, shoves Strong to the, but Strong pulls him off into a back breaker for 2. Bate fights back with the RANA and rolling kick and follows with a crucifix for 2. The rebound lariat connects for 2 again. The crowd is loving this. Strong fights of the Tyler driver, Bate’s back is bothering him, but he counters the Stronghold and rolls up Strong for 2. Strong follows with knees and the end of heartache ends Bate’s night to earn the title shot. Roderick Strong defeated Tyler Bate @ 10:06 via pin [***½] This was a very good main event, with a hot crowd and the Strong win giving us a fresh challenger for Dunne. I wish that this had gotten a few more minutes, to really build up to a hot ending, but they made the best of the time given and this was a ton of fun.
