During last night’s WWE Raw, Jey Uso secured another shot at the vacant World Heavyweight Title after winning a battle royal. He will now go on to face CM Punk for the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event next month. During today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated on the booking decision of CM Punk vs. Jey Uso, considering WWE Superstar Bron Breakker is being positioned as WWE’s next main event star.

Meltzer noted the lack of legitimate contenders in last night’s battle royal, including The Vision’s Bron Breakker, who would’ve been “the favorite” to win, and Bronson Reed. Meltzer speculated that the idea is that WWE wants Breakker to win the World Heavyweight Title at a bigger show than Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Meltzer stated on the topic, “So I guess the idea is they [WWE] wanted to — Well, I’m sure it leads to a storyline that they’re going somewhere, and the key to this, because I would’ve thought that Punk and Bron Breakker would fight for the title, and Bron Breakker would probably win. And obviously, they do not want Bron Breakker to have that championship on this show.”

Meltzer explained that WWE views Breakker as “the guy” that they’ve picked to become a top star. He added on Breakker, “I guess when he wins it, it has to be on a bigger show since — you know, he’s the guy. He’s the guy that they’ve picked. So rather than eliminate him from the battle royal, they just didn’t put him in the battle royal to begin with.”

Meltzer critiqued the finish of the battle royal, basically being telegraphed because Breakker and Reed weren’t put in it. With regards to Rollins’ injury timeline, Meltzer stated, “No timeline on Rollins. There will be soon enough.” WWE officially stripped Rollins of the World Heavyweight Title on last night’s show.

Jey Uso faces CM Punk for the vacant World Heavyweight Title at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. The card is scheduled for November 1 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. It will air live on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
