Update On David Finlay’s Contract Status With NJPW

Former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay’s contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling is reportedly set to expire in the near future, and according to Fightful Select, the German-born wrestler is exploring his options, especially in the United States of America, following interest from the companies. However, he is set to work some additional dates for the Japan-based company following Wrestle Kingdom 20. David Finlay is set to compete in a 10-man tag team match alongside his Bullet Club War Dogs teammates at the January 4 event.

Finlay has been a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling since 2015 and has wrestled over 800 matches for the company. He is a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion, a one-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and a one-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion, besides winning the New Japan Cup in 2025 and the World Tag League in 2019 (alongside Juice Robinson).

David Finlay’s father, Fit Finlay, has strong ties to WWE, having performed for the company from 2001 to 2011 and being a trainer and assistant coach at the Performance Center since 2020. Meanwhile, his brother, Brogan Finlay, is currently signed to WWE. Brogan performs for the NXT brand under the ring name Uriah Connors and is a member of Chase U. Fightful Select also touched upon the contract status of other NJPW stars, revealing that several talents worked without deals for several months this year and were eventually re-signed to one-year deals along the way.
