Backstage Update on Drake Maverick and Bobby Roode’s WWE Status

With Rockstar Spud returning to the ring as part of the PROGRESS promotion in his native UK, fans had to have wondered what that meant for his WWE role, as Drake Maverick. Spud/Maverick, real name James Curtin, doesn’t look to be leaving yet — per Fightful, he was listed as a writer just this past week for Raw.
It should be noted that even the PROGRESS press release stated that, “he has remained with the company [WWE] in a backstage role.” He hasn’t wrestled a match in five years, and appears to be doing so as a special appearance rather than a full-time ring return. He has to be hoping it’ll go better than his infamous TNA match in London with EC3, in which he was hung upside-down and got his head shaved.
Bobby Roode’s status was called into question when WWE moved the Glorious One to the alumni section on its website, but sharp-eyed fans constantly see him in the background of backstage segments. According to the same Fightful report, he remains a producer — he merely has no intention to step back into the ring again.
It’s possible both men could move on at any time, but as of this moment, they still seem set in their roles.
