Sami Zayn was ready to finish his story and make his boyhood dream come true today at WWE Royal Rumble 2026. However, despite a very supportive crowd in Riyadh, reigning WWE Champion Drew McIntyre denied Sami Zayn that opportunity.

Zayn delivered a tough match against the defending champion. He even hit McIntyre with a Helluva kick, but McIntyre managed to shockingly kick out. Later on, Sami Zayn took a debilitating Powerbomb from Drew McIntyre through one of the broadcast tables.

McIntyre then dragged Zayn back into the ring and eventually hit the challenger with a Claymore. However, McIntyre opted not to cover Zayn. He then waited for Zayn to get up one more, hitting him with another Claymore for an emphatic pinfall victory.

McIntyre now leaves the Royal Rumble as WWE Undisputed Champion and gets his first title defense off his back. He won the title just over three weeks ago at Friday Night SmackDown in Berlin, beating Cody Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell Match.

Now, McIntyre will have to sit and wait, as one of his next potential challenges might lie ahead of him in the Royal Rumble match. Former WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes is among the declared competitors in the Rumble match. Additionally, some of Reigns’ old rivals, such as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, are competing in the Rumble match as well.
