Eddie Kingston On His Remaining Goals In Wrestling, Wants AEW To Thrive
Eddie Kingston has a few goals left to check off in his career, including making sure he leaves AEW and pro wrestling better than when he came to them. Kingston has been part of AEW since 2020, becoming one of its most popular performers. He’s back after a lengthy layoff due to injury, and he appeared on Busted Open Radio for a new interview. You can see some highlights below:
On His Goals Left In His Career:
“The most important one for me, because of my love for Japanese wrestling, is just to fight in Budokan Hall just one time. Because that’s where my favorite match happened. 6-3-94, Misawa and Kawada. And if I’m in that — when I was in Sumo Hall for the G-1, I was looking around like, ‘Oh yeah, I gotta wrestle.’ You know what I mean? Because you just see these places on tape or DVD or whatever it is now. And you watch these matches and you hear the crowd, and you want to be a part of it. You want to be there.
“So that’s definitely one. Being a tag champion with HOOK or Ortiz is another goal. And honestly — you know what, when you say most important? Honestly, this is me not being a good soldier or anything like that. Because I can give a f**k less. This is about the pro wrestling business. I want to see AEW thrive and get better as time goes on. And the younger guys learn from guys like Mox and, and other people. I just want the company to be better for when I’m gone, I can say I left pro wrestling better than when I [entered it], you know what I mean? I wanna be Terry Funk at the end. I want people to say, ‘Eddie tried.’ That’s it.”
On Bully Ray Telling a Story About Interacting With Terry Funk:
“Guys like that, that you — when you meet a hero of yours, or someone that you wanna emulate. And you meet that person and they’re actually great? F**k, blows everything outta the water…”
“If I’m lucky enough to be spoken like in the same vicinity as like someone like Funk? Bro, I did what I could do. I did what I was meant to do then, you know what I mean? ’cause no one says a bad word [about Funk]. I haven’t heard one person — and I watched the shoot interviews. I was part of that generation buying the RF and the Highspot shoot interviews and all that. I never heard anyone say a bad word about Mr. Funk once. You hear it from everyone else, but [not Funk].”
