Hangman Adam Page overcame a valiant effort from Samoa Joe to retain his World Championship at AEW WrestleDream 2025.

The Samoan Submission Machine dominated the proceedings in the early stages of the match, hitting The Cowboy with a Rock Barrel Kick and an STO.

Hangman tried to claw his way back into the contest as the two exchanged chops. The reigning AEW World Champion nailed a Sunset Flip Powerbomb off the corner to gain some momentum and then went for a Buckshot Lariat, which Joe countered with his signature Coquina Clutch submission hold.

However, Hangman managed to get out of the hold by putting his foot on the bottom rope. In response, Samoa Joe went for the Muscle Buster, but Adam Page countered it with the Deadeye. However, the Samoan Submission Machine managed to kick out.

In response, The Anxious Millennial Cowboy hit the AEW World Trios Champion with three successive Buckshot Lariats to retain his prized gold.

After the match, Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs came down to help Joe to his feet. Joe shook hands and showed respect to Hangman, only to then clothesline him. The Opps joined in on the attack, with Shibata and Hobbs holding Page back while Joe grabbed the World title and cracked Page in the face with it. Hobbs hoisted Page to the top rope, allowing Joe to hit the Muscle Buster on top of the World title. Joe literally stepped on Page on his way out of the ring.
