JBL On Why The Road Warriors Are The Greatest Tag Team Ever

On the latest episode of Something to Wrestle, JBL was shown a pair of Road Warrior Animal’s ring-worn trunks heading to auction, and used the moment to hand out two of his highest career rankings. He labeled the two — famously called the Legion of Doom in the WWE — the greatest tag team ever. You can check out his comments below:

On Bobby Heenan & The Road Warriors:

“I would agree — greatest tag team of all time. I’ve always said, when people ask who the greatest commentator is, they’re asking who’s second, because Bobby Heenan is so far ahead of everybody else that nobody even considers somebody might be in his category. Same thing with the Road Warriors. I think the Road Warriors, in my opinion, are the greatest tag team of all time.”

On Animal’s Trunks Having His Name Embroidered Inside:

“But I’m a little surprised here. He had his gimmick name engraved on the inside of his trunks. I’ve never heard of anything on trunks but my own. That seems abnormal to me. Is this like — did Animal match the trunks with the Animal shoulder pads, so him and Hawk didn’t get it mixed up?”

On the Road Warrior Pop:

“I remember one time I was at Reunion Arena. I was in college, I think, and Bill Watts was in the ring, and he said, why are you so tough? You carry a baseball bat with you. And he goes, I’ve got something better than a baseball bat — now, come to the Road Warriors, brother. That Road Warrior pop, my God, that was legit. People joked about it later. That Road Warrior pop, there was nothing like that. Those guys were so freaking over.”
