John Cena Says He & WWE Are Still ‘Working Forward’ On John Cena Classic

John Cena doesn’t have a specific update on the upcoming John Cena classic, but says he and WWE are still “working forward” on it. Cena announced the tournament back at WWE Backlash, which will feature competitors from all three WWE brands and fan voting deciding the winner.

Details have been scarce since the initial announcement, and Cena was asked for an update by Extra at San Diego Comic Con. He noted that there’s nothing concrete to update on yet but said that he’s excited for the tournament.

“I gotta withhold the updates,” Cena told the outlet. “What I can tell you is we are working forward, and I cannot tell you how excited I am about it. The event, what it stands for — I wanna do something great for WWE fans towards the end of the calendar year.”

He continued, “Man, I wish I could give you spoilers but I gotta be loyal to my company. What I can tell you is we’re working on it, and I am gonna give you my absolute best. If an event is gonna wear my name, especially in the WWE realm, I’m always giving my best to WWE, the Classic would be no less.”

It was reported in late March that WWE was targeting the “last half” of the year for the tournament.
