Welcome to AEW Collision, and we are EIGHT DAYS AWAY from AEW ALL IN LONDON!
Tonight, WILLOW NIGHTINGALE will put her AEW World Championship on the line against the surging (and current TBS Champion) MAYA WORLD!
The CONTINENTAL CHALLENGE CUP CONTINUES. Both Jon Moxley and Nigel McGuinness have made it through to the final four. Two C3 matches tonight will round out that field tonight.
* FUCK. Eddie Kingston has NOT been cleared to compete and is out of the C3. He will be replaced by Daniel Garcia (who won a quick “play-in” bout at last night’s Ring of Honor DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR event against Adam Priest). Daniel Garcia will face his DEATHRIDERS STABLEMATE AND MENTOR, Claudio Castignoli!
* In our other C3 quarterfinal bout, the Conglomeration will once again conglomerate against one another! After defeating his stablemate and long-time friend Roderick Strong last week, Vancouver’s own KYLE O’REILLY will challenge ORANGE CASSIDY.
Tony Schiavone and IAN RICCABONI are on the call tonight, and that Conglomeration C3 (C4?) bout is STARTING US OFF!!!
Continental Challenge Cup: Orange Cassidy v Kyle O’Reilly
Again, worth pointing out that OC is once again coming out to “Jane”, rather than “Where is my Mind”. O’Reilly with a FRESH FADE FRIDAY SATURDAY.
Bryce Remsburg is the official. OC slowly takes his sunglasses off as Kyle looks for a fistbump. OC …puts the shades on O’Reilly. LOL
Circle to start and Schiavone calls out the RICCABONE-ZONE! Kyle wins the grappling match with a solid headscissors. OC slowly looks for a headstand… he slowly crawls back down and catches his breath. Quick side headlock takeover. O’Reilly wants out, OC holds onto it. OC watched Oiwa in the G1 Climax confirmed. Another side headlock takeover. Wrestling!
O’Reilly shoots his man off, OC hooks the ropes to stop himself. O’Reilly with a charge. OC sends him through the ropes to the apron. Kyle ducks in, and OC… locks on the side headlock. O’Reilly reverses into a back suplex.
Break and reset. O’Reilly going for the wrist, getting an arm-wringer. Kyle wants it, but Orange goes for the pockets. O’Reilly switches to a rear waistlock. OC reaches through O’Reilly’s arms, INTO THE POCKETS! He shimmies out of O’Reilly’s grip, flustering the Vancouver native! Now it’s O’Reilly’s turn for a side headlock. Cassidy shoots him off, O’Reilly gets to a stop. Now the pace picks up! Off the ropes! Back and forth! O’Reilly shot outside! ORANGE CHARGES… slowly… and lays down. O’Reilly has hands on hips. OC holds the ropes to let Kyle in. So O’Reilly instead climbs up the turnbuckles and over to go in, saying NAH to OC’s offer.
Into the corner, O’Reilly with an up and over. OC on the apron, O’Reilly with the leg, DRAGON SCREW! Cassidy rolls to the floor. O’Reilly feints with his running knee, OC is there. O’Reilly’s turn to hold the ropes open… Cassidy opts to ROLL in under the bottom rope. Loving this psychology of two guys who know each other well.
In the ring, they exchange arm-wringers. O’Reilly with a snap suplex. Cassidy gets one of his own. O’Reilly with another! OC fights for it, gets a second snap suplex on his own! Schiavone throws to commercial. Happily, tonight MyAEW is carrying the show LIVE, so those of us watching that way continue with the action!
*Commercial Break*
We’re back and the SUPLEX SUMMIT IS CONTINUING! During the break, OC and Kyle continued trading and fighting for suplexes, and they’re still going for it. O’Reilly blocks, hits another of his own! Both men back off to the corners after that, catching their breath. OC is the first to charge in. Kyle ducks, hits a suplex. OC gets another in response, and they both collapse back to the corners. O’Reilly’s pained selling face is awesome. OC looks like he’s not even sure it’s worth it LOL. These sweaty babes.
Centre of the ring, high five. OC with a forearm. O’Reilly with a thigh kick. They slug it out! Kyle opens up with a big combination, looks to pick the leg, OC with an open-hand shot. Superkick! O’Reilly bounces through the ropes, eats a superkick, again tumbles through the ropes and explodes with a McGuinness rebound lariat!
Both men down, Remsburg making a standing ten-count. They’re both up— OC RIGHT BACK DOWN thanks to a Kyle kick! OC POPS UP! But he eats a kitchen sink! Right cross! STUNDOG MILLIONAIRE — O’REILLY COUNTERS IT ONTO A CROSS ARMBREAKER! Wow, that was SMOOTH! Transitions into the ankle lock! OC desperately makes the ropes!
And here come the shitty kicks from OC… Kyle allows a few and then BLASTS Cassidy. Looks for the guillotine choke, but Cassidy turns it into a slam! Pinfall gets two. Off the ropes, O’Reilly looks for whatever but eats a Tornado DDT! Another nearfall. Ricabonni adding a lot to this match with his analysis. Always a treat to have Ian on the call.
OC off the top, O’Reilly ducks, rollup gets two! SWEEP THE LEG! OC ducks a PK! Beach break countered, roll through, OC WITH THE PK! BEACH BREAK! O’Reilly fighting! O’Reilly slides out INTO THE ANKLE LOCK! OC rolls over, Kyle IS A PITBULL AND WILL NOT LET GO! O’Reilly stands up, he has it locked right on. OC doesn’t want to tap. O’Reilly breaks the hold, wants to stomp the ankle. He won’t be that vicious to his friend… OC ROLLS HIM UP FOR TWO! Kyle says FUCK THAT, ANKLE LOCK, OC IMMEDIATELY TAPS!!! WOW!
WINNER: Kyle O’Reilly
TIME: 14:35
RATING: ***3/4
THOUGHTS: One of the things I like about Continental rules in general, but particular the tournament, is seeing matches that otherwise would not make a lot of sense, such as Hechicero v Brian Cage, or this bout between good guy stablemates. The tournament setting and rules also allow for different styles of matches; I really enjoyed the story they told of two men who wanted to DEFEAT, but not HURT, their opponent. The suplex war was a lot of fun, they picked the pace up in the home stretch, and O’Reilly continues to be a killer with his ankle lock. I’m sure this just means O’Reilly loses again to Moxley in Glasgow, but hey, great match tonight between two fan favourites.
* We cut to after Dynamite from Wednesday. Renee is with Nigel McGuinness, the latter being attended to by trainers. Nigel is overwhelmed at winning and in a lot of pain. Will Ospreay comes in! Apologizes, and asks for some ice. Ospreay says fair play to Nigel for continuing on. “That looks pretty bad.” Nigel says save the congratulations til after Glasgow.
Will says as a kid from Essex watching a geezer from Kent was an inspiration for Ospreay and Nigel paved the way for a lot of British wrestlers. Will has more faith in Nigel winning the C3, than Will has faith in HIMSELF. Nigel says this opportunity may never happen again for Will, and he’s proud of him. Nigel says Will is the one who can do what NO British wrestler has ever done — win the world title in England. For Will’s granddad. Will looks emotional and thanks Nigel.
Jesus, Nigel remains so fucking good. It’s a treat that he and we, fans, are getting any of this late career wrestling. This was an unexpected but lovely interaction, adding to Ospreay’s journey to challenge KENNY OMEGA for the title at Wembley.
* BOW DOWN! The World Tag Team Champions have ARRIVED! Divine Dominion make their epic entrance! The tag belts are hanging vertically from their waistbands. Just HANGING DONG.
FIVE MINUTE ELIMINATION CHALLENGE: Divine Dominion vs Erica Leigh & Tiara James
I don’t like the chancees for Leigh and James. But they rush Megan Bayne at the bell! … that goes nowhere and Bayne German suplexes both challengers! Tag made to Kross, and the champs run over James and Leigh. Leigh tossed to the floor!
Bayne and Kross take a second to talk to the camera and threaten their Wembley challengers, the Brawling Birds! They pump each other up, then hit… the HART ATTACK! Which is the finisher of the Brawling Birds! One, two, BAYNE PULLS JAMES UP. Now for the DIVINE INTERVENTION and that is ACADEMIC.
WINNERS: Divine Dominion
TIME: 1:34
RATING: delicious squash
THOUGHTS: Perfect, brutal squash for the champs en route to their huge title defense at Wembley against Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor. Honestly, Bayne & Kross are so damn good in this role, I kinda want them to RETAIN at All In!
* We got a vignette for Jack Perry. Perry says he respects what SWERVE STRICKLAND has to say. Perry says it’s taken him years to build back to where he is today. “I’ve got a little Scottish blood in me, so what better place… Glasglow, Scotland! Swerve Strickland v Jungle Jack Perry, first time ever. Kill… or be killed.” We come back and get the graphic, it’s official for Dynamite! And coming up after this next commercial break, Claudio v Garcia!
*Commercial Break*
* Recap from Dynamite of Kevin Knight exploding pyro on Darby Allin and then assaulting the man. Steven Borden, son of STIIIINNNNNNNNG, is beside Darby as they load Allin into the ambulance. Knight talks shit about where the “big boys play” to Borden. It is announced that Darby suffered some burns but will make All In.
CONTINENTAL CHALLENGE CUP: Daniel Garcia v Claudio Castagnoli
Garcia enters from backstage, slapping hands with Wheeler Yuta, Marina Shafir, and Jon Moxley. They recap a bit of Garcia’s promo from Death Before Dishonor last night, where he kind of irritated Marina and Moxley with his trash talk. Claudio’s music hits, and he comes from the stairwell through the rest of the Deathriders, wearing his luchadore mask. Claudio, Marina, and Yuta do their circle hype up. Moxley daps Claudio up.
Definitely an interesting match with one of the designated jobbers of the Deathriders v the gatekeeper of Claudio. Garcia keeps his BACK turned towards Claudio! Claudio walks behind the man to drop his mask and jacket at the timekeepers table. Some really interesting emotion on Danny’s face. Claudio is calm and cool, Garcia is anxious as hell.
Here we go! Bell rings and Garcia is trying to use some speed. We get the hands locked. Claudio easily puts Garcia to the corner. Clean break, but Claudio takes his time to fully separate. Clearly trying to intimidate Garcia. Quick side headlock. Claudio looks for a sharpshooter. Garcia scrambles and fights. Claudio keeps his balance, gets to a mount, then turns Danny over for one. Garcia to the apron and ropes.
There is a really powerful intensity to this bout. Crowd chants “CLAUDIO.” Garcia smacks Claudio on the shoulder, and now Danny smirks. Another. Trash talk, Claudio swings — GARCIA WITH A BACKSLIDE! Claudio kicks out, schoolboy! Two! Tries a sunset flip… Claudio just MUSCLES Garcia up and swats him. Ian: “Gotta be like wrestling a BEAR, Schiavone.” Garcia hits a European Uppercut. Claudio swings and misses, Garcia sends Claudio to the ropes. Dragon screw! Claudio to the outside, sets on a chair in the corner of the barricades. Garcia follows and fires away with right hands.
Garcia gets distance, charges in, and hits a DROPKICK TO THE SEATED CLAUDIO! Claudio stands and staggers thanks to the Dragonscrew. Danny jaws with the fans and PAYS FOR IT. Claudio with a HUGE lariat from off camera! Dumps Garcia into the front row, and Claudio appears PISSED.
*Commercial Break*
Claudio is absolutely stalking Garcia. Still on the outside, knife edge chop. Finally in, HEAVY boot to the head from Claudio. Garcia into the buckle, Garcia stomping away, then chokes with the boot. Garcia, son, you done fucked up.
Officially back, and Claudio continues his assault on Garcia. Sickening sounding chop has Garcia reeling. The expression on Claudio’s face is ANYTHING but Swiss Neutral. Garcia has fire, he starts to RAISE HIS ARMS FOR THE DANCE! Claudio smashes him.
Garcia RISES UP AGAIN!! Claudio smacks the hands down and unloads again. To the delight of the crowd, Garcia AGAIN RAISES HIS ARMS… and that seems to ENRAGE Castagnoli, just pounding the piss out of Garcia in the corner, to the point where the referee almost gets to five.
Daniel Garcia… DOES THE FUCKING DANCE TO A MASSIVE OVATION!!! CLAUDIO CHARGES! GARCIA DUCKS AND GETS TWO OFF A ROLLUP! GARCIA IS FIRED UP! He sends Claudio to the corner and starts firing away! TEN PUNCH COUNTALONG — Claudio powers out, but Garcia lands on his feet. His ankle buckles. Garcia still charges, rolls Claudio over, hooks the legs, looking for the Dragon Tamer! Claudio fights! Garcia steps through and HAS IT LOCKED ON! Garcia is smartly FACING the nearest ropes, Claudio’s head in the center! But when Garcia wrenches back, Claudio grabs Danny’s head! Garcia slips out, looks for a guillotine. Claudio POWERS Garcia up, Garcia holds on, nabs a SLEEPER HOLD!
Claudio looks for the classic back into the buckle to break, but Garcia will NOT let go. Claudio’s head is changing colours. Garcia still holding on, but Claudio gets a break, and GIANT SWING. But Claudio only gets a few revolutions, he’s damaged. Crowd is BEHIND GARCIA! Claudio with a clothesline, backslide! Can’t keep him down BUSAIKU KNEE FROM GARCIA! But Garcia is tired, can’t cover. Claudio with a standing headscissors — adjusts the NECK, Claudio style. Claudio scoops the man to counter. Garcia’s ankle is still bothering him but Claudio comes in. EUROPEAN UPPERCUT. Elbow from Danny. BACK TO THE SLEEPER HOLD!
Shit, I want Garcia to WIN THIS THING.
Claudio still fading, but Garcia loses his grip. Looking for the GOTCH, but Claudio hoists the man up and slams him into the buckle. Kick to the thigh. Running Euro! Another! A third — GARCIA COUNTERS AND GETS THE SLEEPER AGAIN! Claudio is down to one knee! Claudio sinks, Garcia … he’s not…
NEUTRALIZER!!!
Holy shit!
ONE, TWO, CLAUDIO GETS THE SHOULDER OUT.
Fuck. That should’ve been the finish right there. Claudio is winning.
Claudio is down while Garcia gets to his feet. Danny once again looking for the Dragon Tamer, but Claudio rips the ankle. Claudio with a POPUP EUROPEAN UPPERCUT. One, two, DANNY KICKS OUT! WHAT???!!!
Castagnoli gets a Sharpshooter! No, Schiavone, it’s not Claudio’s “version of a Dragontamer.” Garcia keeps fighting! HE SPITS AT CLAUDIO! GARCIA IS DEFIANT. Claudio is ripping off Danny’s wrestling shoe, wow, this is HEATED. Garcia trying to fight, Claudio is so damn strong. The shoe is off! Claudio with a ONE LEGGED GIANT SWING!! What the hell! Claudio removes the elbow pad. EUROPEAN UPPERCUT. One, two, DANNY KICKS OUT AGAIN!!! WHAT IN THE HELL ARE WE WATCHING?!
Garcia is selling SO MUCH pain from the ankle, but Claudio looms over him. Garcia uses Claudio to get his to his own feet. OPEN HAND SLAP.
Claudio says fuck that. European. Double stomp. Deadlift into the ALPAMARE WATERSLIDE (I think). Back into the Sharpshooter, and Garcia has no choice but to tap.
WINNER: Claudio Castagnoli
TIME: 15:39
RATING: ****1/4
THOUGHTS: WOW. That match was fan-freaking-tastic. Especially with Garcia being a last-minute substitution. Here’s the thing — Claudio and Garcia got the crowd fervently behind Danny with the work. That is good fuckin’ wrestling. Claudio played the grumpy mentor to a tee, beating the hell out of Garcia, who had to use counters and his quickness. THIS is the Daniel Garcia that, in 2024, actually got significantly over. He is SO much better as a defiant, gritty, underdog babyface than his bland tough guy shit in the Deathriders. And bringing back the dance for his fireup, to the roar of the crowd. This was outstanding, with the nervous Garcia trying for quick pinfalls to start, surprising the veteran Castagnoli; Claudio dominating, but Garcia refusing to die. I KNOW Claudio winning was probably the original plan and the right call, but they got me with this one. I badly wanted Garcia to win!
* Commercial Break*
* We are back, and here are the two C3 semi-final matches for Glasgow! It will be KYLE O’REILLY v NIGEL MCGUINNESS! Which means… CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI v JON MOXLEY! Holy hell! I thought for sure we would get O’Reilly v Mox in the semifinals. WOW. O’Reilly v McGuinness will be a fuckin’ treat! Claudio v Moxley will be a FIGHT.
* Video package on the Dogs, who for some reason Schiavone calls “one of the most influential teams in AEW.” Finlay talks to the camera… Gabe Kidd tells him to shut up. Kidd says what is this shit, this isn’t who we are. We are KILLERS. Open challenge for the Trios titles at Wembley? The Dogs are in. I hate to admit it, but Kidd came across REALLY well in that segment.
* Speaking of trios matches, here come the HURT SYNDICATE! MVP accompanies Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. Their partner… TAIGA STYLE! The reigning ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, with Shane Taylor Promotions, makes his entrance.
Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, and Lee Moriarty vs victims Ryan O’Neill, Nic Nolan, and Matt Mako
Shelton starts with I THINK Matt Mako. MVP: “This ain’t gonna take long.” Lee wants a tag, but Shelton tags Lashley in. Bobby and Shelton charge the other two opponents, hauling them into the ring. Lashley smashes Nolan to the floor. Ryan O’Neill shot off into a big Lashley spinebuster. Outside, Shelton continues just beating the hell out of Nic Nolan.
SPEAR FROM BOBBY LASHLEY! Nolan just got trucked.
Back in the ring, Lee Moriarty wants a tag. Lashley obliges (with a big smack to the chest). And now, just like last week, the Hurt Syndicate decide business is done. Lee sends Matt Mako to the floor and nails a dive. Mako didn’t quite catch him. The Pure champ locks on the Border City Stretch and Mako quickly passes out. Lee gets his hand raised, but looks down the aisle, unimpressed with the Hurt Syndicate leaving.
WINNERS: Lashley, Shelton, and Moriarity
TIME: Under three minutes
RATING: n/r
THOUGHTS: Not quite what the play is, but Shelton and Bobby just MULKEYING (hello Brian Hill!) dudes, then leaving the STP members to clean up is entertaining. Moriarty getting the win is cool; would love to see him FINALLY get a run in AEW proper. Not a lot to this but it wasn’t boring!
* Shane Taylor gets a microphone and calls out the Pennsylvania hicks. Greatness looks like Lee Moriarty, holding the ROH Pure title for over two years. Greatness is STP becoming the greatest TRIOS CHAMPIONS of all time, so they issue an open challenge!
* The arena goes dark… “BY ORDER OF THE BANG BANG GANG!” THE ENTIRE BBG IS HERE! THE BEST ENTRANCE IN WRESTLING! SWITCHBLADE! THE GUNNS! ACE AUSTIN! JUICE ROBINSON! It will be Jay White and the Gunns stepping in the ring!
Jay White and The Gunns v Shane Taylor and The Infantry
Schiavone notes that the BBG never actually LOST the trios titles, they had to vacate them due to an injury to Jay White.
Austin Gunn starts with Carli Bravo. Tag into Jay White. I love Carli Bravo, he’s such a chatty bitch LOL. White tags out to Colten Gunn, but Carli wrangles Colten to the bad guy corner. Tag made to the Captain Shawn Dean, and the Infantry double team. Dean with a crotch chop to add insult to injury as crowd chants “guns up.” Leap frog from “FULLY COCKED” Colten Gunn, blind tag Austin, Gunn with wild speed off the ropes nails Dean. Bravo in, Austin nails him! The big man is in, Austin ducks, but gets LEVELED by a short clothesline from the bad man.
Schiavone goes over the legitimate military backgrounds of the Infantry. Bravo with a blatant eyepoke to Austin. Austin Gunn playing the role of Ricky Morton tonight, folks! Austin tries to fire up against big Shane Taylor, but a HEADBUTT sends Gunn back to the canvas. Shawn Dean back in, kneedrop. Dean distracts the ref so STP can get some cheapshots in.
Bravo off of Bret’s Rope to his a knee drop to Austin (being held by Dean). Bad Man Rumble is in and he just avalanches Austin. Bravo follows with a splash of his own. HERE COMES THE BBC! Bronco Buster on Austin Gunn. Carli Bravo sings a vulgar nursery rhyme lol.
Another series of charges, but Austin ducks, dodges, and MAKES THE HOT TAG! COLTEN GUNN IS A HOUSEAFAR! High dropkick to Carli Bravo. Gunn with the crotch chop, looks for the famouser, TAYLOR WITH A LARIAT. Shane DRAGS Dean to their corner to tag in. Shane with a bodyslam, Colten wriggles out. Dodges a charge and tags SWITCHBLADE! Jay White with chops. Shane blocks, White ducks, hits the ropes and nails a forearm. White evades a charge and unloads with forearms and chops. Taylor isn’t even off-balance and REFUSES to let White use an Irish whip. Jay counters, looks for a DDT, Taylor with a huge back body drop. BIG SPLASH IN THE CORNER. White is slumped. Taylor is CLIMBING THE ROPES. VADER BOMB, but nobody home as White rolls out of the way. Taylor tags in Dean, tag into Bravo. Double-team on White, White with a standing switch! Sends the Infantry into each other. Dragon screw to Dean (did they have a bet backstage or something)? The Gunns nail Carli Bravo! HOLY SHIT!
THE GUNNS — 3:10 TO YUMA ON THE BIG SHANE TAYLOR! Taylor rolls outside. Carli Bravo attacks White, counter, BLADE RUNNER! JUST LIKE THAT! One, two, three!
WINNERS: The Bang Bang Gang
TIME: 9:47
RATING: ***1/4
THOUGHTS: The Gunns have truly developed into an excellent tag team. Austin’s frenetic energy and Colton’s beautiful hot tags are rad. Switchblade continues to regain his form. I like STP a lot. Fun match with big personalities, and a big win for the Collision Cowboys. The only real criticism… what’s the point of the STP/Hurt Syndicate alliance when, left on their own, STP still lose.
* Switchblade gets a microphone. “GUNS UP EVERYBODY!” Golden Gunslingers, the Collision Cowboys, the Bang Bang Gang! White admits his match against Mox last Wednesday didn’t go his way. But… Jay admits it was silly for him to tell the BBG to take the week off owing to Continental rules. White calls out Bandido, Brody, and Hangman. White appreciates the assist, but he and the Gunns NEVER LOST THOSE BELTS. They were never beaten going into All In 2024. White declares the BANG BANG GANG for whatever the hell the Trios Championship match at ALL IN LONDON will be! And if you ain’t down with that, ME, MY PANTS, AND REDDING, GOT TWO WORDS FOR YA: GUNS UP! Good promo from Switchblade, other than one dork in the audience.
* Lexi Nair is backstage with the Conglomeration, including the World Champ, WILLOW. O’Reilly is still selling as Lexi asks him about facing Nigel. Kyle says he drew his two best friends in the first two rounds. Nigel is the only one who stands in the way of Kyle getting to Wembley. Willow goes over her history at All In; watching from home, being on the pre-show, being in the Gauntlet. While Willow is friends with Maya, Willow is going to walk into Wembley as the World Champion, and walk out after defeating Mercedes Mone.
* Commercial Break *
* Vignette recapping the history of Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay! Big time package with tons of detail.
* Here comes the 21-year-old who last night at Death Before Dishonor took Bandido to the limit — the Prodigy, Nick Wayne. Geez, man, no days off!
* HIS SHADOW KNOWS HIS STORY! The PSYCHO KILLER is here! Ciampa is 10-1 on Collision, according to his bottom third.
* I really don’t like Komander’s newer music.
* EVERYONE’S FAVOURITE NON-BINARY FRENCH-CANADIAN KARATE MAN IS HERE!
Nick Wayne & Tommaso Ciampa vs Speedball Mike Bailey & Komander
This tag match features the four men who didn’t win their Casino Gauntlet qualifiers.
Inset promo: Nick Wayne wants in the Casino Gauntlet. Ciampa says this isn’t a friendship, or even a team. Strictly business. Same rules apply in the Casino Gauntlet.
Ciampa and Bailey start us off. Bailey uses a cartwheel to escape an armwringer. Ciampa breaks a waistlock by going to the ropes. Cheap elbow to Bailey. Speedball ducks and hits some quick kicks, causing Ciampa to beg off into the corner ropes. Tag made to Nick Wayne. Wayne says he wants Komander, but blindsides Bailey when Speedball goes for the tag. Speedball turns the tide and does tag in Komander, who hits a nifty splash off the middle rope to Wayne. All four men in, double irish whip, double clotheslines ducked, DOUBLE FLYING HEADSCISSORS! The heels powder to the floor. Bailey and Komander hit the ropes and stereo suicide dives. Ooooof, Nick Wayne went hard into the announce table.
* Commercial Break*
Komander blocks a suplex from Nick Wayne, gets a cradle for two. HOT TAG TO SPEEDBALL! Bailey sends Wayne into the corner, hits a kick. Missile dropkick! Bailey kicks Ciampa off the apron, then nails a spinning reverse kick to young Nick Wayne. More kicks. Bailey should take the “YES!” kicks, call them the “OUI!” kicks. Speedball takes a stance, Wayne ducks, counter series, Dragon suplex from Wayne on Bailey.
Tag made to Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa gets a cover for two, ducks Bailey’s kick, dodges Bailey’s moonsault, HUGE kick takes Ciamp down. Ciampa can’t avoid the next one, Bailey’s moonsault kneedrop connects square in the chest of the Psycho Killer. Crowd clapping, trying to will Bailey to make the tag. Ciamp tags in Wayne, Speedball tags in Komander!
Komander with… WOW. I can’t even describe that! Unbelievable moves! Splash to the back of Wayne! CIAMPA WITH A RUNNING KNEE to Komander breaks up the fall. Ciampa looks for something, Bailey with quick kicks. Ian: “Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!” Wayne looks for something, Bailey ducks, Wayne accidentally nails Ciampa! Ciampa falls to the floor. Bailey with a moonsault to the outside onto Ciampa! Komander gets a near fall on Wayne. Nick Wayne almost steals it with his feet on the ropes. Ciampa is on the apron! He rips at the mask of Komander! Bailey is held by Ciampa as Wayne connects with the Proto-Plex on Komander for the three.
WINNERS: Tommaso Ciampa & Nick Wayne
TIME: 9:59
RATING: **3/4
THOUGHTS: Solid enough match that never quite coalesced into anything “must-see.” Good spotlight on four guys who will be in the Casino Gauntlet, everybody hit some big moves. Nick Wayne getting the pinfall is a great choice after his fantastic performance last night against Bandido on the ROH PPV.
* Ciampa shoves Wayne to the canvas, then gives a golf clap to the young prodigy.
* Video package for the ALL IN International Title match. Kazuchika Okada. Kyle Fletcher. Konosuke Takeshita. Triple-threat for the title at Wembley. There is an amazing headshot of Okada’s shit-eating grin in it lol.
* Commercial Break *
* Backstage with the Deathriders. Garcia is pissed off about the draw pitting Claudio v Moxley. Moxley tells Wheeler to shut up lol. Claudio asks “sucks for who?” Wheeler: “How’s the ankle, Danny?” Garcia: “Sucks.”
* Here comes the TBS Champion… Maya World!
* Smile Anyway, the AEW WORLD CHAMPION IS HERE! WILLOW NIGHTINGALE!
AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: Willow Nightingale (c) vs Maya World
Winner goes onto All In to defend the World title against Mercedes Mone.
Feeling out process to start us off. Willow with her strength advantage, mat return plants Maya. Shoulder tackle does the same, but Maya kips up. Another shoulder tackle. Willow off the ropes, Maya dropdown. Nightingale slides down and smiles cutely, lol. Maya’s turn to taunt, crowd with mild boos. Hard to go against the clear fan favorite in the women’s division, world champ Willow.
The champ unloads with repeated short lariats to Maya in the corner. A short-arm lariat gets ducked by Maya with a Matrix dive! Tijares sends Willow to the bottom rope and outside. Maya with a flying cross body from apron to floor as Schiavone says we will stay with this match as long as it takes.
Back in, Maya heads up to Bret’s rope. She flies, Willow ducks. POUNNNNNNNNNCE… Period from Willow sends Maya to the canvas. PERFECTPLEX by Willow for two. Yes, I know, it’s a Fisherman’s Buster, but that was Hennig-approved. Bodyslam sends Maya down AGAIN, the champ is in firm control of this bout. ANOTHER bodyslam, geez! A third, Maya slides out, gets a rollup for only one. Big boot from Willow and Maya World is down again. Willow with the running senton for two! The TBS champion is “paying her dues” somewhat in this one!
Side Russian legsweep takes Maya down and Willow locks on a submission hold. World fights out, rolls Willow back. Willow’s shoulders are down! Kickout by Willow and the hold is broken. The World Champion continues to hold serve. Maya with some weak shots. Nightingale responds with some HARD forearms to the chest. Irish whip, reverses, Willow with a cartwheel, running enziguri!
Into the corner, Willow with a a charging lariat. Sent to the opposite buckle, another. Willow with a back splash! Maya blocks a right hand and hits one of her own. Maya with an ax kick, enziguri! Willow charges, Maya ducks, shotgun dropkick! That gets two. Maya tries a bodyslam, Willow fights. Maya with a handstand, headscissors! Willow ends up on the middle rope, so World hits a 619! The challenger trying to string some offense together. Off the ropes —
SPINEBUSTER from the champ.
Willow and Maya are both down, both fighting to their feet. Willow with a charge, Maya dodges. Charge, Willow with the boot up. Willow with a dropkick from the middle rope! Willow is FEELING IT! CANNONBALL to the corner! One, two, Maya kicks out. The Champion Babe heads up, but Maya is up! World with a SUNSET FLIP POWERBOMB! Maya has Willow up and hits her bridging Fallaway Slam finisher! She won the TBS Championship with that. One, two… Willow gets the shoulder up. Crowd says that was three. I rewound, and it sure looks like Stephon Smith pulled up on his three count with Willow getting the shoulder up just a moment too late. Hard to fully call but oof.
Back to action, Willow back on offense. Looks for the BABE WITH THE POWERBOMB, Maya rolls her up! Willow with a kickout! Maya kicks out! Willow gets the backslide for one, two, three!
WINNER: (and still champion) Willow Nightingale
TIME: 12:38
RATING: ***
THOUGHTS: Solid work, giving Willow a nice defense before ALL IN. The match had two things working against it: face v face (with Willow being significantly more popular with the crowd), and an utter lack of drama. Maya’s work so far has been shining against heels, which didn’t work with Willow. There was zero chance of a title change. Willow DOMINATING Maya for a big chunk of the match was good stuff, because she’s the champ heading into Wembley, and she is more experienced and stronger than World. Again, solid work from both women that didn’t get into the next gear.
* Willow shakes Maya’s hand, then celebrates with the World title belt to close the show.
