Karmen Petrovic has opened up about the debut of the new Perros del Mal, revealing that WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker was backstage applauding after the faction’s appearance on the June 20 episode of Lucha Libre AAA on FOX.
Speaking with The Dallas Morning News, Petrovic reflected on the group’s return and the reaction it received, saying the moment carried extra meaning because of the legacy attached to the Perros del Mal name. The faction made its debut during the closing segment of the June 20 broadcast.
After El Grande Americano addressed the crowd, he was confronted by the reformed Perros del Mal, consisting of Daga, Karmen Petrovic, Bronco Nima, Berto, and Angel. The attack marked the official return of one of Mexico’s most recognizable factions with an entirely new lineup.
Looking back on the segment, Petrovic admitted the group understood the expectations that came with reviving the Perros del Mal name.
She said everyone involved felt the responsibility of honoring what previous generations had built while creating their own chapter. Karmen Petrovic also recalled watching El Grande Americano interact with fans before the attack.
“Incredible. That’s something that we felt like was a lot of weight on our shoulders, because either it was going to work or it wasn’t going to work. Of course, with Perros del Mal, the legacy that comes behind it and everything that the previous members of the faction have built, is something that we just want to uphold and only make better from here on out. So knowing that and then also knowing how incredible El Grande has been received by the Mexican crowd and in AAA, watching that backstage, you know, him walk out, cut his promo, there’s kids crying in the audience, like everyone’s reaching out to him, and I’m just like, ‘Damn, I’m gonna have to kick him in the head for real. For real, for real. 100%.’”
Once Perros del Mal appeared, Petrovic said the crowd reaction was unlike anything she had experienced before. According to Petrovic, she returned backstage, still trying to process everything, and realized she could no longer feel her arms because of the adrenaline. One moment stood out above the rest after the segment ended. Petrovic revealed that The Undertaker was waiting backstage and applauding the group’s debut. She said the WWE legend was happy with how everything came together.
“Walking out, too — the crowd reaction to even just me walking out there, I felt it echo in my chest. I’ve never been in front of a Mexican crowd before, let alone an arena like that. So, it truly was indescribable. I felt like I blacked out. I didn’t even remember what happened until I came backstage, and then I was like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t feel my arms. What’s going on right now?’ But we came back, and Undertaker was applauding it. He was really happy with it. The fans loved it. We had over 15 million views within the first 24 hours over WWE and AAA platforms. So, it was great. Just something that I feel like I am going to yearn for that feeling forever.”
As for the group’s future, she said Perros del Mal wants to make an impact wherever it appears, whether that’s in AAA, NXT, or another stage, while continuing to build on the faction’s legacy.
“Always to make a statement. Whenever we show up on TV, whether it’s on NXT Heatwave, whether it’s in AAA, or wherever we go, it’s always make a statement, make ourselves known, and continue creating the legacy.”
