Latest Details On Plan For WWE SummerSlam 2026 Card

WWE SummerSlam is about three weeks away, and a new report has an update on planned matches for the card. The two-night show takes place on August 1st and 2nd in Minneapolis, Minnesota at US Bank Stadium, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has some notes on where the current card stands in terms of planning.

Dave Meltzer laid out the potential possibilities for the Undisputed WWE Championship match — which fans who have watched the show will likely have already guessed at. As has been reported on, the plan for CM Punk to win the Undisputed WWE Championship has been set for quite some time. Punk’s last appearance before beating Sami Zayn for the title on Raw took place on the episode of the show that followed WrestleMania, when Punk confronted Cody Rhodes and hinted at coming after the title (then held by Rhodes).

The report notes that there is still no certainty where this is going for WrestleMania; the booking set Punk up to win the title without needing to beat Rhodes, giving them an untouched matchup for WrestleMania. That said, Gunther’s attack on Rhodes that removed him from the WWE Title match on Raw (and allowed Punk to win) could end up with Rhodes facing Gunther, or potentially a three-way match. Sami Zayn could also be in the mix for a rematch. Whatever the title match ends up being, it will likely be announced next week. It was noted that Punk will be full-time going forward after having taken his post-WrestleMania break.

The report goes on to say (again, as fans watching may have guessed) that Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill and a WWE United States Championship match between Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes still appear to be the plan. There were plans for Gunther vs. Royce Keys, but it’s not clear if that is still the case given Gunther’s involvement with Rhodes.

The following matches are all officially and previously announced for the PLE:

* World Heavyweight Championship Match: Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins.
* Hell in a Cell Match: Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi
* Women’s World Championship Match: Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY.
* WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Penta vs. TBA.

Penta’s match will be against either Je’Von Evans, Ethan Page, Rusev, Dragon Lee, Chad Gable, Joe Hendry, or Dominik Mysterio. The seven are competing in a Gauntlet Match on WWE Raw to determine Penta’s challenger.
