Latest Update on Cody Rhodes Following Brutal Eye Injury

Cody Rhodes suffered a brutal eye injury during his victory over Randy Orton at WWE WrestleMania 42 Saturday. Cody’s eye was swollen shut after the match and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer that the injury likely occurred from a punch by Orton during a slugfest or during the Cody Cutter into the RKO spot.
WWE announced that Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head, and suffered severe damage to his orbital socket. Meltzer notes that WWE also put Cody in their concussion protocol, but the belief backstage is that he did not suffer a concussion and that putting him in the protocol was a precautionary measure.
Meltzer also notes that at the moment, it looks as though Rhodes did not suffer an orbital bone fracture, an injury which would have caused him to miss an extended amount of time.
It remains to be seen if he will be able to wrestle at WWE Backlash on May 9th, however. WWE is still evaluating Rhodes.
