WWE Provides Update on Cody Rhodes’ Eye Injury

WWE has provided an update on the medical status of Cody Rhodes following his match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42 Saturday. As previously reported, Rhodes injured his eye, thanks to a punch he received from Randy during the match.

After the match, WWE posted footage of medical professionals tending to Rhodes, whose left eye had been swollen and completely shut by that point. At the Countdown to WrestleMania 42 Sunday show, Jackie Redmond provided an update on Cody’s status.

Redmond revealed that Cody needed sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head. Redmond noted that the impact of Orton’s Punt Kick on his orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut, and no timeline is currently set for his return.

“I can confirm that Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared. After speaking to medical staff, I can tell you that the damage from that main event was severe. Afterwards, Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head. As for the Punt that you just showed from Randy Orton, the impact to Cody’s orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut. So again, Rhodes is not medically cleared, and his timetable to return is up in the air,” Redmond said.

Due to the injury he suffered last night, Cody’s scheduled appearance at WWE World has been canceled.
