Matt Cardona Responds To CM Punk’s Comments on WWE SmackDown, Says He Also Wants the WWE Title

During last night’s WWE SmackDown, reigning WWE Undisputed Champion CM Punk laid out a challenge to the wrestlers in the locker room. He offered to face anyone in the SmackDown locker room who wants to step up and challenge him for the title. Matt Cardona was not among the names Punk listed off, but he noted that he’s among those who want the WWE Championship.
Cardona wrote on his X account, “Everybody wants it…myself included. STILL HERE. ALWAYZ READY. I’M NOT FINISHED.” He also shared a throwback photo showing him together with CM Punk when he was WWE Champion and Cardona was WWE US Champion back in 2011.
Punk’s comments eventually drew out former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, setting up a match between the two at SummerSlam 2026. So, for now, it looks like Cody Rhodes will be Punk’s first challenge for the WWE Undisputed Title.
Matt Cardona last wrestled on the June 26 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, teaming with Danhausen against the team of Los Garza in a winning effort.
