Matt Hardy Teases Character Change Coming Out of Righteous Deletion

On the latest episode of Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, the TNA star revealed that he and Jeff Hardy are heading into a significant character change coming out of the Righteous Deletion — one they had pitched during their AEW run but were never permitted to do.
The Hardys defeated the Righteous in the match on last week’s TNA Impact after emerging from the Lake of Reincarnation. Hardy recounted Tony Khan’s reasoning for turning the idea down, and laid out what he and Jeff have planned next. You can check out his comments below:
On Wanting To Be Heels:
“The thing I am very excited for is when we go into Philadelphia now, Jeff and I — because we talked about doing this at AEW and doing it as heels to a degree, but we never got the clearance to do it. Because Tony said, ‘Oh my God, I can’t turn you heel. You get one of the biggest reactions every single night. I can’t do that.'”
On Changing Things Up:
“I think Jeff’s going to be the Antichrist. I’m going to switch things up a little bit — maybe Matthew the Broken. We’ll see. We haven’t finalized it yet, but we are going to still be grateful to our Diehardys, our fans. Without them, there’s no us, no doubt. We’re going to stand on all ten toes about all the cool shit and groundbreaking things we have done in pro wrestling, and we’re going to be a little ego[tistical] about it. You know what I mean? So it’s going to be an interesting new twist to the Hardys.”
On If a Heel Run Would Have Worked In AEW:
“With that audience, it would have worked 100%. With that audience, no doubt.”
On the Righteous Deletion Launching the Change:
“The thing that is so cool about this is that it is going to reshape myself and Jeff, our characters, going forward. And we’re going to be doing something new, and we’re excited. I think Jeff’s really excited about it too, which is kind of different for him — unique, because Jeff is typically very Jeff. But we’re going to try something that is kind of new and innovative in the pro wrestling world, so we’re pretty excited about it.”
