Matt Jackson Reflects on 15th Anniversary of Young Bucks Being Granted Release From TNA

Matt Jackson recently reflected on the 15th anniversary of The Young Bucks being granted their release by TNA.

Matt and Nick Jackson worked as “Generation Me” during their two-year stint in TNA from 2009 to 2011 before requesting their release and deciding to bet on themselves.

Speaking to Undisputed [via Fightful] recently, Matt Jackson reflected on the same, stating that they were on a “bad contract” and were “starved and backed up against the wall.”

It was at that moment, Matt Jackson revealed, that the brothers decided to bet on themselves. However, Matt admitted that even they couldn’t have envisioned what the next 15 years would look like for them at the time.

Here’s what Matt Jackson said:

“I can’t believe it’s already been 15 years. That was the very first scenario where we decided to bet on ourselves, and luckily, by the grace of God, it worked out for us. My wife was very pregnant with our first child, and we were dead broke. Nick and I were on a bad contract where we’d only get paid if we wrestled, and we were at home being iced. We were starved and backed up against a wall.

“Call it blind confidence or young arrogance; we just saw something in ourselves that they did not, and we had the courage to make a change. I don’t think anyone, including ourselves, could’ve ever imagined what the next 15 years would look like, though. At the time, I would’ve just been happy to be able to pay rent. Now I look at everything we’ve helped build, and it’s just insane. We’re blessed men and have had careers we’re obviously very proud of.”

The Young Bucks are AEW EVPs and a record three-time World Tag Team Champions. They are set to face Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley in a tag team match at Redemption this Sunday.
