Maya World Discusses Facing Her Idol Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door

At last month’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, Maya World stepped into the ring with Mercedes Mone in the finals of the Owen Hart Tournament. During a recent Highspots Sign-It Live virtual signing, Maya World spoke about getting into the ring with one of her wrestling idols.

Speaking on the moment, Maya World said on wrestling Mercedes Mone (via WrestlingInc.com), “Mercedes is like my idol, and honestly, I’ll probably chase that feeling of being in the ring with her for the rest of my career. It was an amazing time.”

Mone won the matchup, earning an AEW Women’s World Title shot at AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium later this August. Meanwhile, Maya World was in action last night on AEW Dynamite, competing in the AEW Women’s World Title #1 Contendership Casino Gauntlet.

Although Maya World managed to get a pinfall over Julia Hart in the gauntlet, Willow Nightingale won the whole thing, earning a title shot against Thekla at AEW Redemption later this month.
