Maya World and Hyan stepped up and took an opportunity in AEW late last year that led to their getting signed, something World recently reflected on. As you likely recall, World and Hyan filled in on the November 8th, 2025 episode of Collision when Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize chose not to take part in their booked match against Anna Jay and Tay Conti. Newell and Alize wanted their match to have more time and chose to leave before the show started, leading to Hyan and World stepping in. They signed with AEW in December after AEW Worlds End.

World was a guest on SiriusXM’s Off the Ropes Thunder Rosa and Jonathan Coachman. During the conversation, Rosa brought up the moment and World reflected briefly on the matter, noting that she and Hyan were often picked for extra work already, so they were backstage at the show.

“A lot happened backstage that night,” World began (per Fightful). “Like you said, we stepped up and of course, me and Hyan were two of the women that were always picked for extra work and always back there.”

She continued, “So I think, like I said before, Tony’s not just offering anybody a contract. He’d seen us and the work we’d been putting in. So, us stepping up, it meant a lot to him and I think that’s ultimately the reason we got signed. But I always say, we were always working hard so we were gonna get that eventually. It just kind of sped up the process.”

While World and Hyan have continued to tag, they’ve also sought singles action in ROH. World challenged Athena for the ROH Women’s World Championship on last week’s ROH On HonorClub.
