More Backstage Details On Nixon Newell & Miranda Alize’s AEW Walkout, Newell Reportedly Having Issues In Debut

A new report has some additional details on Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize walking out before their scheduled match on last night’s Collision. As reported on earlier today, the two left last night’s taping and their match against Anna Jay and Tay Conti didn’t happen. Jay and Conti instead defeated Hyan and Maya World on the show.
A new report from Fightful Select reiterates the previous details. Fightful Select confirmed that the two did not refuse to lose the match as was initially reported. Rather, the two asked for more time for the match, which was only budgeted for three minutes. At that time the times for the show were budgeted out. The two left about an hour before the show started.
The report confirms previous news that World and Hyan were praised backstage for filling in. The two were said to be “over the moon” about the last-minute opportunity for the match.
Fightful notes that AEW sources and talent were internally disappointed about the matter. One staff member said that Newell and Alize are talented, but said there was a push to help Newell. Newell expressed in an interview back in June that she had a “severe lack of bookings.” Another staff member said they were disappointed by the situation and said it seemed out of character specifically for Newell.
Sources and talent in AEW also said that there was “conflicting information” about how Newell and Alize’s first AEW match went. The two faced Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir and lost in short order. Word reached the locker room that Newell wasn’t happy about the way that match was put together. There was an issue around whether Bayne would sell for Newell and Alize. However, with Bayne and Shafir being established as a strong new team, that was not a decision Bayne could make on her own regarding unsigned talent. The report notes that AEW talent usually know they have to clear that with coaches/producers.
One source, who is a longtime friend of Newell’s, said it was a matter of Newell being excited about her debut but disappointed it would end so quickly. One source said that it felt like Newell wanted to get he match over with after the discussion. A third suggested that Bayne’s frustration during the match was legit regarding a perceived lack of cooperation on some spots.
Newell responded to a request for comment from Fightful about the debut match. She denied any disagreement and said:
“No we had no disagreement, Miranda and I are really the only ones that have the details about how yesterday went.”
Newell has not yet responded to clarification on the disagreement around Saturday’s show.
