Maya World Is ‘Pining’ For ROH Women’s World Title, Talks Training Under Athena

Maya World revealed in a new interview that she’s setting her sights on her mentor Athena’s ROH Women’s World Championship. World trained with Athena, but she has fallen on her trainer’s bad side of late after defeating her in the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

World spoke about her relationship with Athena with The Augusta Free Press and how the ROH Women’s Champion prepared her for the big opportunities that come her way. She also noted that she is looking at trying to claim the title no one has been able to take from Athena. You can see highlights below:

On Training Under Athena:

“Honestly, I say her coaching and teaching is what prepared me for moments like, making sure I’m ready whenever opportunity knocks. That is definitely something she instills in her students still to this day. Just — there’s going to be moments, especially in AEW. And honestly, in professional wrestling as a whole, you never know what’s going to happen, what’s going to come about.

“Even moments like me getting signed after stepping up for a tag match. She told me, ‘I’ve been telling you, you never know what’s going to happen. Just always be ready, always be prepared, never stop training,’ which I never have, I train every week. ‘Never stop training, just make sure you’re ready for all the moments’… and she definitely instilled that into me and everyone. So having her definitely set me up for where I am.”

On Targeting the ROH Women’s World Championship:

“I am pining for it. I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know what the future holds, but that would be super dope.”
