Mayu Iwatani Vacates GHC Women’s Championship

Mayu Iwatani has one of the most decorated Japanese women’s wrestling careers in recent memory, celebrating her fifteenth anniversary in the business early this year. Unfortunately, like many wrestlers before her, injuries have begun to set in & limit her time in the ring. Iwatani has been out of action since last month with a toe injury, and that injury will leave her unable to defend the GHC Women’s Championship.

“I really wanted to compete today, and I tried so hard to make it in time for WRESTLE MAGIC, but I have a fractured big toe, so I’m truly sorry… I will be relinquishing the GHC belt. It feels so bitter. I will definitely come back for this belt once I return! For now, just for a little while, we’ll have to say goodbye.”
Iwatani is also currently Marigold’s Super Fly Champion, there has been no word on her status as champion there, or when she’ll be able to return to the ring.
