Bill Dundee, the wrestling legend who was an indelible part of the Memphis scene, has passed away. Dundee’s son Jamie announced via Facebook on Sunday that his father passed way this morning at the age of 82. He had revealed back in October of 2023 that Bill had been battling dementia.

Jamie wrote on Sunday:

“With a heavy heart ot hurts me to have to say this …At 330 this morning the SUPERSTSR BILL DUNDEE has passed away …I love you Dad illl catch you on the OTHERSIDE……..

Bill Dundee had a wrestling career that lasted 57 years. Born in 1943 in Scotland and raised in Melbourne, Australia, he had a brief stint in the circus as a trapeze artist starting at 16 before he began training in the ring. He had his wrestling debut in 1962 and wrestled for Australia’s WCW for several years.

Dundee eventually came to the US and began working as “Superstar” Bill Dundee, teaming with George Barnes. The two had early runs with the NWA Mid-America Southern Tag Team Championships before spilling as a team. Dundee would go on to hold those titles several more times with other partners.

Dundee came to the Memphis territory in the mid 1970s and made himself into a star here, teaming with (and feuding with) Jerrry Lawler and Jimmy Valant for years in the CWA. He was a ninetime Southern Heavyweight Champion and 14-time Southern Tag Team Champion, and held the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice with Lawler.

Outside of Memphis, Dundee had runs with Jim Crockett Promotions, Central States Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling, and a brief run with WCW from 1993 through 1994 as the manager for Steven Regal. In addition to his in-ring work, Dundee worked as a booker in several territories including Memphis and Georgia.

Dundee worked his final match in December of 2019 at the Bobby Eaton Night Of Appreciation, teaming with Beau James, George South, and Stan Lee in a losing effort against Bobby Fulton, Brad Thomas, Ryan Dookie & Shane Williams. He was inducted into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017.

On behald of 411, our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Bill Dundee. He will most certainly be missed.
