Mercedes Mone was able to resist a defiant Thekla at AEW WrestleDream 2026 and walk out of the Addition Financial Arena as still the AEW Women’s World Champion.

During the match, Mercedes injured her right shin when she missed an attempted Meteora and hit the turnbuckle rods. Thekla worked on her injured leg in the remainder of the match.

The former champion had the match won on several occasions, like when she locked in The Death Trap or when she nailed a Curb Stomp. However, Mercedes managed to put her leg on the rope each time.

The final stretch of the bout saw Mercedes use her protective mask to her advantage behind the referee’s back. She went for the Mone Maker, but Thekla countered it with an O’Connor Roll for a near fall. Thekla went for another Curb Stomp, but this time, Mercedes was able to counter it with the Mone Maker for the desired pinfall.

This was Mercedes Mone’s second title defense and her first on PPV. Her reign currently stands at 49 days. She captured the title from Willow Nightingale at All In: London.
