Reigning NWA National Heavyweight Champion Mike Mondo has reacted to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) introducing a new singles championship.
Ahead of last night’s episode of Dynamite, AEW CEO Tony Khan and veteran commentator Tony Schiavone announced that the Jacksonville-based company will be introducing the National Championship.
The inaugural champion will be crowned via a Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW Full Gear later this month. Apart from All Elite Wrestling, the championship is set to be defended in promotions such as ROH, CMLL, and NJPW.
Reacting to the announcement on X, current NWA National Heavyweight Champion Mike Mondo bragged about holding the most “prestigious” championship in the world of professional wrestling.
He wrote:
“Let me be CLEAR. There is only ONE NWA, & there is only one PRESTIGIOUS National Championship that holds legit lineage & has for decades. So to Tony Khan or anyone else confused… here’s the legit title, with the company it belongs to & the legit National Champion! MY NAME IS MIKE MONDO.”
