A new report provides more details on Wes Lee’s release from WWE. Lee was released from his WWE contract on October 10th, a move that came as a surprise to many fans. Today’s Fightful Select Answers Q&A featured a question about Lee’s release, and provided details on what the reasons for why he was leg go.

According to sources, Lee’s release came about because he had been on NXT for five years and there were never main roster plans for him. NXT has often seemed okay with having talent on the brand for a long time due to their TV deal. However, in Lee’s case that limit seemed to have passed.

Lee had a run as NXT Tag Team Champions alongside Zach Wentz (then Nash Carter) as MSK. He also held the NXT North American Championship for 269 days from Halloween Havoc 2022 to July 2023. Most recently he had been paired with Tyriek Igwe, and Tyson Dupont as High Ryze. His release came at the same time as the likes of Stevie Turner, Lance Anoa’i, Jin Tala, and BJ Ray.

Wes Lee is expected to be high in demand on the independent scene.
