Former WWE Raw broadcaster Pat McAfee has officially joined the cast of the new Netflix World War II production, The Mosquito Bowl. The new feature comes from Battleship and Friday Night Lights director Peter Berg and is currently filming in Australia.

The upcoming feature stars Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You, Masters of the Universe)Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu), Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis. It’s based on the true story of four top American college football stars who set their fame aside to enlist int he Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

As the young men prepare for the invasion of Okinawa, they participate in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history, a game that will be the last for many players. McAfee will be appearing in the film in the role of a US Marine drill instructor.

Filming on the project began earlier this month in Queensland, Australia, per Netflix and Screen Queensland, the Australian government-owned agency that invests in locally made films, series, and digital games.

Berg directs the feature from a script he co-wrote with Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Twisters). Berg is also producing the project for the Film 44 banner, with Brian Grazer producing for Imagine Entertainment and Alex Gayner. Ezra Emanuel is executive producing the project.

The Mosquito Bowl, featuring Pat McAfee, will debut on Netflix at a later date. As previously noted, McAfee stepped away from his WWE broadcasting role earlier this year.
