The John Cena Classic has been announced, but a new report suggests that there is still a lot in flux regarding plans and a potential window for it on the calendar. As noted, Cena announced the tournament at WWE Backlash. The tournament will see WWE main roster talent taking on NXT stars, with the winner determined by fan vote and capturing the John Cena Classic Championship.
Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that there is a lot that hasn’t been determined about the tournament. According to sources, no date or venue has been nailed down. One source noted that an early December window would make the most sense in terms of what’s on WWE’s calendar currently, as well as making it a one-year anniversary of Cena’s retirement at Saturday Night’s Main Event — a show that also saw main roster talent battling NXT stars.
The site also notes that Netflix “almost immediately” said they were interested in hosting the event on its platform, but that has not been finalized either. The report notes that “very little” about the Cena Classic has been set in stone at this point.
