Powerhouse Hobbs is headed to WWE, and a new report has some new details on his decision to do so as well as the reaction in AEW. It was reported last night that the former AEW TNT Champion has officially signed on with WWE. His AEW contract expired last week without being renewed, despite AEW making several offers to try and retain him.
The WON reports that Hobbs’ decision to sign with WWE has been described by sources in AEW as a decision “based on his family.” The more specific details were not revealed, though the implication is that he got a better deal financially from WWE.
According to the report, no one in AEW has had a negative word to say about Hobbs. The company was reported as having made a “huge” offer in an attempt to retain him, but he choice to leave and made sure not to burn his bridges there.
Hobbs is a former TNT and World Trios Champion from his time in AEW. He took the pinfall in his last match, a bout taped for last week’s AEW Collision that saw The Opps lose the Trios Titles to Hangman Page and JetSpeed.
There’s no word as of yet on when Hobbs may make his WWE debut, nor what name he will use.
